Chapter Text
Akutagawas dreams had always been ones he wished he could escape into but this time he wasn't sure if he could handle it. When he went to bed he thought he wouldnt have any dreams, maybe a nightmare though from the fight with Fyodor but this time he didnt...instead he saw...Atsushi. His eyes widened and his heart stopped.
"Weretiger...?" he said as he say Atsushi, sitting on the grass in from of him "Akutagawa! You made it!" Atsushi happily got up and took Akutagawas hand "Come, i made us some food!" Akutagawa let Atsushi lead him to a picnic blanket with a good assortment of foods and drinks.
"What is all this?" he questioned "Food? ha, what else would it be? I made it for today, I thought it would be nice to spend time together" Atsushi said and sat down, Akutagawa followed suit. As they both sat there they ate the food and drank, it was...peaceful yet not. Akutagawa couldnt help but think back to the fight, the fight where Atsushi had sacrificed himself for him.
The memories filled Akutagawas head, they were still so fresh. He'd never say to anyone that Atsushis passing had affected him but deep down it did. He had missed calling Atsushi a fool, he had missed his stupidity, he had missed his voice, his eyes. He had missed all of him.
"So, how has work been?" Atsushi asked innocently, like he didn't know what had happened in the waking world. "Its been...alright...the usual missions and such..." he said back, his voice both happy but also sad. "You know...its been hard without you here..." he fiddled with the strawberry he was holding in his hand "Huh? What do you mean? I'm always here! You just gotta hunt me out i guess!" Atsushi joked with a smile.
"i...i guess i do then..." Akutagawa said, more to himself than to Atsushi. "Are you...ok Akutagawa?" he moved closer, concerned a little. "Im fine, lets enjoy our picnic, yeah?" Akutagawa said, trying to sound neutral "Alright then...!" Atsushi began to smile again, it was such a simple yet beautiful smile, one Akutagawa wished he would have gotten to tell Atsushi how beautiful it was.
And so the picnic continued, they talked for what seemed like hours, they had fun, Akutagawa had fun. He didn't want this dream to end, he never wanted it to, the waking world would only fill him with sadness and a grief he didn't know how to deal with. Atsushi was gone and he couldnt do anything to bring him back. Suddenly he wished he had softened up sooner, that he had talked with him and not at him.
But his words and actions were irreversible. No matter how much he wanted to go back and change everything he couldn't and he never would be able to.
The dream eventually came to an end and Akutagawa woke back to the real world by his alarm clock. Maybe soon he'd have another dream with Atsushi in it...
