CatNap panicked through whole days. After seeing Pianosaurus' dead and tore up body, he yelled to the sky, tears endlessly falling from his hollowed eyes. He didn't want the Prototype to get to know he wanted Pianosaurus alive. He quickly picked up the body parts of his lover and rushed to the labs.
He put the body parts on the operating table. The Prototype was CatNap's mentor, but he never showed him, or others of his sycophants how to resurrect bodies. He didn't want to share his authority. So did CatNap had to think of his own.
First, he measured the limbs to each other, trying what kind of angle could fit the most. His own paws moved with quick precision, despite the lack of experience. The claws were obstacles to hold the scalpel right. He remembered, that his mentor also had difficulties with this. The Prototype even had sharper claws than anyone else's.
CatNap rinsed Pianosaurus' bruised and bloody parts with hot water. The whole surgery was full of blood and smelled like death. But he didn't mind anything, if it was about the only toy he loved truly in his life.
He worked with the scalpel, needles sewn the bruised parts together again. He squished the poppy gel again into Pianosaurus' body with syringes. The veiny liquid grew into his ruined organs, re-growing innards.
CatNap exhaled through his nose. At this time, poppy gas didn't leaked through his mouth. It dried up from his body. He touched Pianosaurus' chest with a careful paw. The heart started beating again. But painfully slowly.
Now, he just had to resurrect his lover back to life for real with an electric shock. He looked for the defibrillator. Once, his mentor mentioned, that a toy with consciousness, but without life, doesn't worth a single penny.
CatNap found the small machine in one shelf. He turned on AED, which gave visual instructions. He carefully placed the electrode pads on Pianosaurus' lifeless body. One pad on his upper right chest, below his collarbone, the other on the lower left side of his chest, below his armpit. He had to repeat the movements multiple times, because Pianosaurus wasn't a humanoid and the defibrillator was certainly used on humanoid experiments.
When the AED said shock advised, CatNap pressed the shock button. Pianosaurus got the electric shock, his lover was careful not to touch him. CatNap's eyes filled with tears again, praying with every hope he had, that his experience could work. Electric stripes circled both of them as the lifeless body got the shocks.
When the shocking ended, CatNap put away the defibrillator. He listened precisely. He could hear Pianosaurus took 3 deep breaths. Then, his closed eyes opened again and Pianosaurus started breathing again. CatNap's mouth curled into a faint smile, seeing him rising from the operating table.
Pianosaurus got up from the table and he pressed two keys on his teeth. His usual face expression returned, his eyes watching CatNap.
"Piano! You're alive!" CatNap breathed, wrapping his arms tightly around him.
But Pianosaurus didn't react to the gesture. He just grinned with those keyboard teeth. His arms stayed limp. CatNap sensed something's not okay.
"Hey, Piano! It's me, CatNap. You're best friend."
Then, Pianosaurus just tilted his head and asked on his musical voice, but bit off-key:
"Who... Who are you? And who am I?"
CatNap's heart sank. He didn't believe this. He didn't believe, that his hours of surgery were unnecessary. Tears broke down from his plush body. Pianosaurus turned away, started to roaming over slowly in the room. He tried to find what is his real duty.
"Piano, you really don't remember me?"
"No," he answered, turning his green head over him.
"I'm CatNap," CatNap started to tell their history. "I'm one of the Smiling Critters. I usually leaking poppy gas out my mouth to put one into sleep. I used to put the orphans into sleep like that. We met on the Toy Ball, you remember? I dated with Poppy and you came with Rabie Baby. But she behaved like trash, and she cheated on you with Simon Smoke. I found you in a corner, crying. I comforted you, and that was the moment, when I realized, I... I... I like you. No, doesn't like. I love you."
Pianosaurus just exhaled, listening with that smart head of his. CatNap couldn't bear this much. He cupped his lover's chin and pulled him into a kiss. Pianosaurus twitched into the kiss, but he responded quickly. Their plastic mouths moved against each other. And that was, when the real electric shock touched Pianosaurus. Their kiss carved itself into his resurrected heart and he started playing their love song on the keyboard.
When the kiss broke, CatNap pulled away, opening his hollowed eyes. Pianosaurus grinned like before. CatNap seemed to give up, turning away, but his lover grabbed his paws.
"CatNap?" asked Pianosaurus, looking right into his soul. "Is that really you?"
"Pianosaurus! You remember me!"
CatNap lunged at him, hugging each other tightly. The feeling was now full and beautiful.
"What the heck happened with me?" Pianosaurus asked on that musical voice.
"You died. Doey killed you, the bastard. But I resurrected you! Me, Pianosaurus, me!"
"Oh, I'm so proud of you, my love. I love you!" he answered, spinning him into his grip.
"I love you too. Now, we should get the hell out this place."
Then, both CatNap and Pianosaurus left the surgery place. They held their paws together, looking into each other's eyes. They felt like the whole world disappeared, it was just them and their true love. They didn't care about the Prototype, nor Poppy, nor anyone anymore, they ran out the ruined factory.
As they reached the exit, they looked at each other again.
"A new beginning?" asked CatNap.
"Yes. A whole new beginning," answered Pianosaurus.
The two toys left the place forever and the building slowly disappeared between them. They didn't know yet what they will do, or where they should escape. But they were sure about one thing: they would never leave alone each other again.
