Work Text:
Hudson was in his favorite place, curled up on Connor’s couch in WeHo, with his head resting on Connor’s chest. Fingers glided through his hair and he sighed happily at the sensation.
“I like it longer, there’s more to play with now,” Connor murmured. Well, now Hudson could never cut it. He smiled stupidly at the tv, not even processing what they were watching.
Damn, he was so happy to have a best friend that truly got him, played off his quirks, and was just as into physical touch as he was. He doesn’t know what he’d do if he had to hold himself back, but Connor had never made holding back something he even had to consider.
He tilted his chin up to look at Connor’s face, smooth and freshly shaven. It’s how he was used to seeing him, but he had to admit there was something sexy about the stubble. He imagined it would be scratchy to kiss, but would feel great when rubbed against other places. He tried to shut off his imagination before it went too far. Too late, he was thinking about the feel of stubble on his inner thighs. He was never good at stopping his brain, but these were not the thoughts to be having when he was currently lying in between his best friend’s legs.
Usually when random thoughts flashed through his mind, they spilled out of his mouth before he even had the chance to think if they were weird, or appropriate for the setting, or if someone else was already talking. And with Connor, Hudson’s brain to mouth filter worked even less because Connor was so willing to indulge him in whatever had popped up in his head. Probably if Hudson voiced his thought about how stubble feels on inner thighs, Connor would laugh and give a detailed description, and Hudson would have to work to keep the jealousy at someone else being that close to Connor off his face. But Hudson had been trying very hard to keep certain thoughts about Connor in a special, elegantly labelled, drawer in his mind.
Hudson’s alarm went off and he groaned loudly, “Fuck, I don’t want to leave yet, I’m so comfy. They can delay the Golden Globes because I’m comfy, right?”
Connor laughed and squeezed him into a hug, “C’mon baby, you know you want time to get all that skincare in before the red carpet.”
“Hey, I stand by my routine! Look at this face, not a pore in sight.”
“I still think some soap and water would give you the same beautiful, dewey, skin,” Connor was definitely just baiting him now, but Hudson still glared back at him and opened his mouth to spout research on the merits of toner. Connor shut him up by smacking a kiss on his cheek and shoving him off the couch.
“Fuck you, Connie,” Hudson said, but it was negated by the stupid ass grin on his face.
“Your fancy team wants to take videos of you getting ready beforehand; time to get going,” Connor was more convincing than any alarm.
“But I’ll miss you. They should have known better than to make us get ready and walk the carpet separately,” Hudson whined.
“I know baby, they’re all assholes for that, but we’ll get to sit together and present together,” Connor said, “Got your lines memorized?”
Hudson huffed, offended, “Of course I do, I’m an actor,” he tilted his chin up.
Connor laughed loudly and Hudson felt warmth and pride rush through him. He was so glad they were doing this together.

By the third interview, Hudson was losing it. He was sweaty, tired of the same stupid fucking questions, tired of being pulled on by random celebrities, and very ready to be back at Connor’s side. He hoped he was doing okay on his own. The blinding camera flashes and heat from the lights were so much to handle by himself and he knew they overwhelmed Connor sometimes, even if he hid it. He said he was going to wear glasses though, which had to help. Hudson bet he looked good with sunglasses on, like a rockstar celebrity.
“-it was good?” Ahh, fuck he’d tuned out whatever this interviewer said completely. Thinking about Connor was very distracting. He nodded in response, which seemed to be good enough, because the interviewer smiled and blessedly turned to her next victim.
Hudson worked his way inside the venue, stopping only to do a glambot that he was sure would make Connor laugh. He was handed a drink and shown the way to his seat, where Connor already sat. Relief rushed through him and a smile broke over his face. Connor was already getting up to hug him hello, nevermind the fact that it had only been a few hours since they had separated.
“I’m sorry, who is this person with this hair? I’m looking for my curly-haired soulmate,” Hudson gestured to Connor’s straightened hair and barely resisted the urge to reach up and ruffle it until curls popped back into place. His fingers still twitched.
Connor laughed and shook his head dramatically, ending with a ridiculous pose, “This is hair that gets me to do shots with Ayo Edebiri, so it might be my new signature look.”
Hudson pouted at that, “you did shots without me? And you’d take Ayo’s preferences over my own?”
“Aww baby, you know I’ll wear my hair however you like it best.”
They settled in as the event officially began, eating fancy fish and being poured even fancier champagne. Hudson couldn’t believe this had become their life so fast. As presenters did vaguely funny bits and awkwardly played off each other, Hudson’s leg started bouncing from sitting still for so long. Fucking hell, he was already eager for whatever was next. Connor’s hand found its way to his thigh and he immediately settled. He maybe wished it would find its way further up, but that thought was for the drawer.
They went on stage and did their scripted bit. At one point they held hands, Hudson looked at Connor’s beautiful face glowing under the stage lights, and he tried not to think about the question he’d been asked earlier about who was the better kisser. He’d answered honestly that it was Connor, but he wished he’d had the chance to show him what he could really do as himself, not just as Shane. And with some privacy, and without intimacy garments in the way. He put the thought in the Connor drawer in his brain. It was filling fast tonight.
The show wrapped up, Hudson was a little drunk, and he was practically in Connor’s lap from how close they were sitting. He actively had to stop himself from shifting until he really was in Connor’s lap. He reminded himself that they were literally at the Golden Globes and he couldn’t act like he would at home with Connor.
Something in his face must have shown annoyance, because suddenly they were getting up and Connor was dragging him into a bathroom.
“Baby, what’s going on?” Connor asked.
“Nothing, it’s fine I’m just. I just miss you,” Hudson said nonsensically. Connor was literally in front of his face. What he really meant was he missed being as close to him as possible. He missed being melded into a single person like when they cuddled in bed. He didn’t like having to hold himself back when he had just gotten this special bond with the best person he had ever met. He wanted to kiss him. He wanted to bend him over the bathroom counter, maybe, but he’d settle for kissing. He tried to shove the thought into the Connor drawer, but it was full to bursting and wouldn’t stay in.
His eyes flicked from Connor’s concerned eyes, down to his mouth, and back again, rapid-fire. Connor’s eyes turned from worried to dark in a moment, and his lips found Hudson’s. At the first warm press of lips on his, Hudson sighed in relief. This was what he’d been antsy about all day. Or for days. Maybe for months, actually. He decided not to worry about how long he’d wanted this and enjoy getting to have it.
He kissed back with enthusiasm and purpose. He wanted to show Connor some pure Hudson moves that he didn’t get to use while they were filming. He slipped his tongue in Connor’s mouth and started backing him up against the sink. Hudson was literally in his mouth, but still needed to be closer. He picked up Connor’s lovely, perfect ass and set him down on the counter so that he could fit himself in between his legs.
Connor let out a noise that Hudson had never heard from him. And Hudson had heard a lot of Connor’s sex noises. Just never with the privilege of being the only one in the room to hear them. “Fuck, Hudson,” he moaned. Hudson started untucking Connor’s shirt in the front and eagerly pushed his hands inside, finally getting to feel the warmth of Connor’s skin.
Hudson pulled his lips back from Connor’s and Connor made a protesting noise, but it turned into a groan when Hudson began making a trail from Connor’s smooth jaw down his neck. He bit lightly at the thin skin there and had just started to suck a mark, claiming Connor as his, when a startled gasp from someone walking in the door broke the silence of the bathroom.
Hudson looked up dizzily and tried to reorient himself with where he was. All he could find was Connor, breathing heavily above him. He burst into laughter at the situation and buried his head in Connor’s neck. Connor hugged him tight and joined in his laughter. Fuck it, he didn’t even care, he was so happy to have this.
