    Summary

Mike Wheeler had no idea who the hell he was outside of Hawkins, Indiana.

A year of community college had done nothing but solidify that fact in his mind. In a desperate attempt to force himself to move on, he decided to join Dustin and Will at IU for his sophomore year as an English major. It seemed though, that the dark cloud that'd been hovering over his head ever since they lost Jane wasn't leaving any time soon. While everyone around him had learned to live with what happened, Mike couldn't find a way to move on, only to exist. Every time he got that feeling in his chest when he looked at Will, he couldn't help but feel like he was betraying her.

The cut of guitar strings into the pads of his fingers wouldn't make his heart flip traitorously in his chest, so long as he avoided playing songs that made him think of, well...

Or: Mike struggles with Survivor's Guilt years after the events of the finale, grappling with how to allow himself to feel happy again after watching Jane die, knowing she believed that he was in love with her. All Mike sees when he looks at Will is sunshine, and the guilt of it is tearing him apart. The list of lengths he'd go to move on is definitely not a short one.
