Work Text:
Mitsuki stands over his balcony railing, looking over into the night as he flicks the ash off of his cigarette into a small tray. He has been trying to hide this fact about himself from his family and Sarada for a while, not wanting to disappoint them. He wears just a pair of black sweatpants and a graphic tee, noting nice to wear to bed but it is comfortable.
From a distance Boruto watches as the light from Mitsuki's apartment balcony door illuminates his back side while Mitsuki stares into the dark. Boruto continues to creep closer to the building, hoping that Mitsuki will soon notice him before he goes back inside.
Mitsuki looks down across the street and finally notices the blonde hair headed towards him, yet he does not move. Instead he continues to observe the blonde to see if he continues to get any closer. Which he does. Boruto stands in front of the building, looking up at Mitsuki as the blue haired boy burns out his cigarette into the ash tray.
They stare at each other for a minute, then Mitsuki points out his finger and curls it back in, signaling to Boruto that he can come up. While Boruto makes his way up the stairs, Mitsuki quickly cleans up his apartment, throwing away anything he hasn't gotten to cleaning up yet and throwing all the clothes on his floor into his laundry basket. He doesn't want to impress Boruto, he just doesn't want to seem lazy since he has always seemed so collected and put-together.
Finally Mitsuki hears a knock on his door as he finishes making his bed seem at least slightly nice, just for Mikazuki to go back and crawl all over it. Mitsuki sighs and walks over to the door, quickly spraying air freshener so the room doesn't smell like cigarettes, answering it slowly so he can greet Boruto, but he does not seem pleased.
"Did you need something from me?" Mitsuki asked in his calm voice, but it seemed to have a very much drained tone to it.
"I just... Need a place to stay for the night... I will be gone at sunrise." Boruto responded, looking into Mitsuki's eyes as a plea.
Mitsuki seemed a bit frustrated, but he was curious as to how this would go down. "Why exactly should I help you? I just need to do the minimum of what Lord Eighth asks of me." Mitsuki realized that what he said may have came off as more harsh than he had intended. It's not that he doesn't want to help Boruto, it's more of that he is extremely confused right now and he doesn't know what the best choice should be.
"Please Mitsuki, I just need somewhere to feel at least a little safe tonight, that is all I ask of you." Boruto whispered as he looked down towards the ground, now feeling embarrassed for even asking.
Mitsuki felt a sharp pang in his heart hearing that, stepping aside to open the door more to let Boruto inside. "Just take a shower first, you smell like you could use one." Mitsuki sighed as he went over to his dresser and got some clothes Boruto could borrow for the night, a wash cloth, and a towel. Boruto stepped inside, closing the door silently behind him. "There are extra toothbrushes in the drawer next to the door. Dont be afraid to use anything else in there" Mitsuki said as he handed Boruto the clothes and towels.
"Thank you. So much, Mitsuki." Boruto thanked Mitsuki with a soft smile, trying to not seem so tired. Boruto got settled into the Bathroom as Mitsuki heard the shower start up, taking that opportunity to clean up some more. Finally sitting on the balcony on a chair to look at the starry sky while Mikazuki purred on his lap.
Hearing Boruto exit the bathroom, Mitsuki looked over at him through the glass door, one side open to let fresh air in. Boruto took a moment to look over Mitsuki's room, it seemed to be more decorated since the last time he was here years ago. Yet the photos on the boys night stand had disappeared.
Mikazuki had jumped off of Mitsuki's lap and wandered down the balcony to explore the dark streets, leaving Mitsuki alone with Boruto. "Do they fit okay?" Mitsuki asked as he came back inside, keeping the door slightly cracked, wondering if his clothes fit Boruto okay. For some reason Mitsuki felt like he liked seeing Boruto share his clothes?
"Yeah, they are perfect, thank you. Where should I put my clothes?" Boruto responded as he looked for a spot to place them for the night. "The counter is fine. I can sleep on the floor so you can have the bed." Mitsuki said as he went to get out some blankets because he doesn't have any floor mats.
Boruto placed his things on the edge of the counter and immediately looked back at Mitsuki. "No, this is your room, shouldn't you should have the bed?" Boruto argued, not wanting to also be an inconvenience. "Boruto I'm not going to argue, either I sleep on the floor or we share the bed, I'm fine with either." Mitsuki didn't realize what he had said before it was too late, why would he offer to share the bed with Boruto? He should have just forced Boruto to take the bed or leave.
"Fine then, guess we will both be sharing the bed." Now Boruto wasn't thinking about what he was saying, and he had now agreed to share the bed with the boy who used to love him and who he might also love back. They both stared at each other in slight disbelief for a moment, but Mitsuki not wanting this to be any more awkward went over to the light switch and flicked it down to turn off the light. "Fine" Mitsuki said trying to sound more upset, but the way he talked seemed more tired than anything.
Mitsuki watches as Boruto just kinda stood there as the blue haired boy got into the bed, thankfully having enough room for the two of them. Mitsuki patted the other side of the bed while Boruto just slowly got closer. "Dont worry I'm not going to bite you or anything." Mitsuki teased as he rolled into his side to watch Boruto climb in.
"Thank you, again. This means a lot." Boruto reminded as he layed on his back while looking over at Mitsuki.
"It's fine, just don't get used to coming to me." Mitsuki responded as he rolled to his other side and closed his eyes. Both of them felling asleep right next to each other.
When Mitsuki awoke in the morning to find that Boruto had left, he felt sad to know he was gone, tracing the spot where Boruto had last rested. "Please be back...My Sun." Mitsuki whispered to himself as he tucked himself back into the warm sheets that still had a slight stain of Boruto's scent.
