in another week I shall find myself singing love songs under your window on moonlight nights

Summary:

"I am sorry, but I think myself fully enchanted," said Kaito, not caring for how cliche he sounded. Perhaps it was the moon, perhaps it was the warm summer night, perhaps it was the diamond and the kiss, but Kaito found himself bound.

Work Text:

"I am sorry, but I think myself fully enchanted," said Kaito, not caring for how cliche he sounded. Perhaps it was the moon, perhaps it was the warm summer night, perhaps it was the diamond and the kiss, but Kaito found himself bound.

"Flattery will get you nowhere," responded Shinichi, visibly also taken by Kid, "Mister Thief."

"I'm afraid I cannot do anything but try." Never in his life did he have any such response to seeing a beauty. "May I know your name, Mister Detective?" he asked, hopefully not sounding too hopeful to have such a simple request answered.

"Kudou Shinichi."

"A beautiful name for a beauty. It suits you." One truth for a detective. Fitting. There was nothing about Shinichi that would be unfitting, he thought.

Shinichi was blushing. "You do not need to lie to me." There was nothing romantic or beautiful about his name. It was a nice name, but hardly of aesthetic or auditory beauty. "You are a fool in love." A love that couldn't be. They hardly knew each other. "Do you think it's the stone?" suggested Shinichi. What exactly he was suggesting, he could not comprehend himself fully.

"The stone? But oh, I believed that you detectives didn't believe in such a thing as magic."

"If all the evidence points that way, then it is an avenue worth exploring."

'I'd love to explore all of your avenues' thought Kaito to himself. "I can assure you, stone or not, my affections toward you are nothing but from the heart." He'd say pure, but with the thought he was thinking, he rather thought that they were impure, too.

Shinichi was blushing from head to toe. The logical part of his brain told him not to believe anything the thief said, but the other part of his brain wanted all of it to be true. He wanted.

But it wasn't meant to be. Footsteps could be heard. Kid's departure was imminent.

"My dear detective, we shall meet again," said Kaito with a heavy heart. Leaving his detective was the last thing on his mind, but how could he marry him if Kid were to be caught? Fleeing took priority in the moment, but only because he couldn't share his love with Shinichi if he didn't do so. He was gone in a puff of smoke, leaving only a rose and the diamond in Shinichi's hand.
