Chapter Text
When Abaddon had first possessed the boy, he did not think his life would end up this way. He thought he would possess the boy, cause some mischief, burn down a few buildings, maybe even a church if he was feeling a little adventurous, but never did he think he would end up like this. Stuck in the weak body of a little boy and trapped on Earth with no way out. He despises the Priest who did it, and he despises the boy in his mind even more. The boy would not stop whining; he was never happy with anything Abaddon did. Abaddon does his best to shut the boy up, but he just does not listen to reason. He has thought about trying to get rid of the boy, but he did not think it would work. The boy has simply been in his mind for too long, and he thinks it would be bad for both of them.
At one point, after getting rid of his acolytes, he had asked Esther about trying to find a spell or ritual to get rid of other parts of the mind, but they had searched for days and had not found anything in the hotel. He thinks there might be something about it somewhere in the world, but he does not want to leave these people he had grown so close to, and he thinks that he would have never thought that if Esther had not helped him realize that he truly cared about all of them deeply. Of course, he would never say that out loud, but he would confidently say to Esther that she is his friend, but he would never tell her, Kathrien, Ben, or Nathan that they were like family to him.
Abaddon was sitting under the front desk, fiddling with an ancient artifact and trying not to be bored out of his mind. He had thought about going and fighting Mothman, but that was always more fun with Esther or Ben, but they were not in the hotel; they were at a place called ‘school’, which Esther had told him was like a prison. Ben had a different opinion on school, but the feelings were mostly the same between them.
After Abaddon hears that one sentence, he tenses. He did not want these people to stay for that long. Of course, in the grand scheme of things, it was but a mere second in the universe, but it was a fairly long time for humans. He was brought out of his thoughts by Kathrine. She nudged him with her foot to move out of her way so she could get better access to the device. He scooted but made no further move to get more out of her way. If she wanted him to move, she could move him. That is exactly what she did; she lifted him from under his arms and set him down on the ground next to her, leaving him in full view of the humans checking in. All three of them were tall, but everyone was tall compared to him, and one of them had oddly colored hair for a human. One of them was wearing glasses and had some device in his ears; he found it odd just how much technology humans had with them at all times. The third human was very plain in his opinion. Dark hair, dark eyes, dark clothes, not much about him stood out to Abaddon, so he ignored the man for the most part. The last man had light purple hair and eyes. He found it odd that these humans had features he had never seen on humans before.
Once he was done with his examination of the three humans, the one with the glasses and the long blond hair tried talking to him, having crouched down to be at his eye level like he had seen so many humans do to talk to their children, so in retaliation, he hissed at the man and ran off to hide in the vents. He heard Kathrine yelling after him, but he paid her no mind; what she had to say was of no importance to him. He crawled through the vents until he came upon his nest. He had made it a while back, when Nathan was still alive, and crawled in. His nest was pleasantly warm as he had made it in the warmest part of the vents. His nest was made up of a lot of soft fabric he had found around the hotel. Fitted sheets and pillows lined the outside, while sifter blankets and a few more pillows covered the middle. He found he liked this way the best after many failed attempts.
He hears running footsteps under him, but again, pays them no mind; he has a child to talk to. The boy basically comes to life in his mind the moment he releases his hold on the boy's mind. “Why do you always make me sleep, Abaddon? I would like to be out as well,” the boy whines. “Well, I don't like being whined at all the time, you're annoying, plus you won't even tell me your name.” Abaddon likes his peace, and he's a little bitter about not knowing the boy's name. Abaddon scrambles out of his nest when he hears the matriarch call his name for the last meal of the day. He did not know how he missed Esther and Ben getting home, but he rushed to see them, excited to pester Ben with Esther. When he enters the kitchen, he sees the three men also in the kitchen talking with Kathrine and Nathan. He hears Nathan give some excuse about not being hungry when the blond one asks if he is going to eat. Abaddon ignores them in favor of going to sit with Esther and Ben, Kathrine having already set down his bowl. Looks like it was spaghetti night, he can't wait to flick little pieces of noodle at Ben.
He did just that while eating and smearing sauce all over his face. The three men had the last meal of the day with them, it seemed, and he wasn't that bothered by it. The two darker men were quieter than the blond one, and he was grateful for that. During the meal Kathrine had yelled at him about not throwing food in front of guests, but if the guests didn't want to see him bother Ben, then they could go somewhere else, so he ignored her and kept flicking the little pieces at Ben, Esther joining in at some point and together the ended up getting a few pieces in his hair and a few in his lap and on his shirt. None of the men seems to mind their game, so Abaddon thinks that Kathrine is being ridiculous.
Once the meal was finished, he and Esther went outside and hunted mothman until Esther's timer went off to get ready for bed, and one of the men came out to walk around in the woods, it's the darkest man that comes out. Abaddon decides to follow the man and see where he goes. It's not that interesting, but it's better than trying to find something other than putting coins on his people's tongues. He watches as the man wonders, sticking to the path Nathan made, and Esther and Abaddon keep remaking. The man keeps walking further into the forest, so Abaddon decides it's time to stop him. He doesn't want Kathrien to yell at him about letting the man get hurt, and if the man doesn't listen, he can be there to kill anything that decides the man will make a nice meal. He jumps down from the tree he was hiding in, landing right in front of the man. The man stopped dead in his tracks, looking down at him with a shocked expression.
“You should turn back, there are dangerous things in these woods,” he says ominously. He loves being what humans would refer to as creepy. “You don't say,” the man says in a deadpan voice. It irritates him because he knows this man isn't taking him seriously. “You know what, fine, it isn't my fault if you get yourself killed,” he starts to walk away from the man, deeper into the woods to set up more traps for mothman. “Wait, if it's that dangerous, then you should go back to the hotel; you shouldn't even be out here alone. Why don't I walk you back, yeah?” the dark man asks, but doesn't really ask as he grabs Abaddon's hand and starts to gently pull him in the direction of the hotel. Abaddon immediately starts to fight the grip on him, but he doesn't get far with his plan to flee deeper into the woods as Nathan comes from around a tree.
“Hey, bud, I've been looking for you for a while- Oh, hey there, Aizawa. What are you doing with Abaddon?” Nathan asks, coming to his rescue once again. He will forever be in Nathan's debt if he can get this man's hand off him. It doesn't take much convincing from Nathan to get the man to let go, and Abaddon runs behind Nathan's legs, like the ghost will give him any protection if the man decides to try and grab at him again, and is careful to not touch his previous caregiver as touching him would reveal to the man that Nathan was a ghost and Kathrine said that was a bad thing.
It doesn't take long for all three of them to be walking back to the hotel and for Abaddon to run off to the vents again.
Shouta wasn't sure how to feel about the kid; he was certain the kid had some kind of trauma that he had accidentally brought back up for the kid, but he was almost sure it wasn't a fear of men, since the kid wasn't afraid of Nathan, but that could just be because he was familiar with the man. He was positive it wasn't a fear of adults, seeing as he was also unafraid of the owner, but the owner was also his aunt, so he wasn't sure how that would be in terms of being afraid of adults. It could just be people in general, but there were some things he had seen to disprove that, seeing as the kid had come to him and had only reacted negatively to him when he had touched the kid. It might have been his grip around the kid's wrist, or the fact that he was practically dragging the kid back to the hotel, but there were a multitude of factors at the time; it was hard to pinpoint the reason.
He was going to keep his distance and observe the kid as he played and ran around with his cousins, hoping to glean some information from that, but all he got from that was that all three of them caused more mischief than his past 1A class combined. He wanted to know more about the kid, to see if he could help the kid while he was there, but he would have to talk to Kathrine and Nathan about that, as they were Abaddon's caretakers.
