Chapter Text
First Timeline...
When Nagisa was a kid, he'd always admire the Pro Heroes. Especially All Might. Even Izuku, who was still 1-A, highschool at the time. The reason why was that Izuku was a family friend.
He'd always cheer on Izuku every time he saw him on TV, especially at the Sports Festival.
...
So what changed? Well, it was a couple of weeks after 1-A had moved to the dorms. Nagisa's dad once worked for Okumura Foods and came home, always exhausted. He was not doing well; his CEO, Okumura, was not good. AT.ALL. But at the time, that was the only job his dad had, and his mom had already fired from her previous job.
Worse? When his dad tried to report Okumura, but it didn't work because the Pros said "he was no threat and that they shouldn't even complain". So long story short, because Okumura was quirkless, they all ignored the workers in need. But that wasn't the only bad thing that had happened.
Before he moved, he had called Izuku for help. He knew Izuku didn't really mean what he had just said, but it was one of the last straws...
"Kamishiro-kun. You shouldn't worry too much. I'm sure your dad will figure something out. If not, maybe talk to the police."
"B-but Midorya-san! The police won't ever get involve no matter how much dad tries!" Kamishiro says, desperate and teary-eyed.
"Then maybe the situation isn't as bad as it seems. I mean, Okumura is quirkless, I doubt nothing extreme would happen."
The call ended there, and Nagisa ended up crying and rushing towards his room, leaving his mom worried. But his mom had a good idea of what had happened on the call and decided to cook him something to make him feel better.
Inside his room, Nagisa started tearing up every single Pro Hero poster he had. He was still crying, but he was both mad and sad at the same time at that moment.
The Pro Heroes are no better...
They break the dreams of the quirkless... Even if they didn't mean to hurt them...
They always consider the quirkless useless. Even to the point where people like his bullies and other mean people like Okumura were harmless...
Then came the Phantom Thieves.
A perverted PE Teacher, a fraud of an artist, a mafia, Nagisa started getting hope. Because all these targets were quirkless. They were seemingly harmless, but they already harmed.
After he threw away his Pro Hero merch, he shortly bought PT merch to support them. Surprisingly, his parents even started to support them. They even hoped to target Okumura eventually.
And they did. But even after Okumura was killed via Mental Shutdown, his parents still supported them. They had a feeling the Thieves had nothing to do with this is. The Mental Shutdowns existed before the "Change of Heart" cases. So why would the Thieves kill now?
Around the time Shido was being targeted by the Thieves, they had already moved away. Nagisa didn't even tell Izuku either. He, too, gave up on him.
...
Nineteenth Timeline...
It was around the time Nagisa- now Wonder- was having training in the Mementos. That was when his team asked him the question.
"Say, is there any particular reason you chose this path?" Messa, otherwise known as Kira Kitazato, a doctor, asked, curious, after they had found and rested in a safe room.
Wonder was caught off guard. He didn't expect this question.
"Um, I'm curious too." Moko, also known as Tomoko Noge, his schoolmate, asked a bit more hesitantly. "We all have a reason for becoming a Phantom Thief." She looked down. I did this for Motoha... but, what about you?
Wonder was silent for a moment, but chose to explain.
"Its... a bit embarrassing, but I wanted to be just like the previous Phantom Thieves... Even as a kid..." He says, embarrassed.
"Hoo-hoo? That's a surprise." Lufel says, teasingly.
"You wanted to be just like the Thieves?" Their navigator Okyann, aka family friend Kayo Tomiyama, says, is surprised. "I mean, I assumed the younger kids preferred the Pros..."
"I know. I used to be a fan of the Pros back then..." Wonder admitted.
"But something changed, right?" Messa guesses.
Wonder nodded his head. "Yeah." But he looked down sadly. "But many of the Pros ignored the problems my dad had with Okumura back then... Even someone I looked up to. I guess I... gave up on them afterwards..."
"Oh..."
The room had gone quiet.
"The Heroes have a lot of twisted desires..." Lufel says. "When all of us are ready, or gained new members, we can target a few Pro Hero Palaces."
"We can do that?!" Moko says, shocked.
"If they have twisted desires, yes. But I doubt we're powerful enough right now."
"Then we'll have to continue getting stronger," Wonder says, standing up. "That way, we'll be ready by then."
...
Thirty-Eighth Timeline...
"Huh? The Pros are coming to our school?!" Nagisa says, shocked.
"Yes." Masaki Ashiya, code name Cherish, confirms during their lunch break.
"But for what purpose?" Lufel questions.
"I don't know. I think it's a check-up after what happened with Shimotsuna..." He says, looking down. "They want to know if anything suspicious happened here..."
"We have to keep our guard up then," Lufel says, serious. "Who knows how smart they are..."
"Yeah," Nagisa agrees. "I'll be sure to inform Leo, Miyu, Minami, and Shoki."
"I- I'll tell Katayama-sensei!" Masaki adds. "I know she isn't a Phantom Thief like us, but we still need to keep her promise when a matter like this has occurred."
"Alright then."
Days later...
Unexpectedly, no one was even afraid when two famous pro heroes asked them questions. It was mostly the girls, though.
But in this timeline, it was Izuku who was one of the two assigned here along with Ilda...
"The Phantom Thieves are not bad guys." Nagisa insists.
"Kamishiro-"
"Don't start, Izuku-san!"
"He knows him?"
"Dunno, but it's juicy..."
Nagisa didn't care about the gossip. He was willing to let out what he felt back then towards Izuku.
"Do you even know what the Thieves are capable of?" Izuku asked, concerned. "Your life could be in danger, that's why-!"
"Oh, so NOW you pay attention to my problems after what happened with Okumura?! Who you said wouldn't be a big deal since he was Quirkless?!"
"Kamishiro-"
"After all these years, you didn't change your thoughts on the Phantom Thieves! Who were the ones who dealt with Shido when no one did?! The Police?! The Heroes?! Don't you think the current Thieves are also being framed?!"
Izuku was silent due to shock.
"When I tried to ask you for help, you turned that down! Did you even consider how much that hurt my parents!? You just lost a fan and supporter that day Midorya! In fact, you haven't done anything for us Quirkless, all this time! You're untrustworthy like those rotten adults!"
-Katayama, no, you're not included, even though you used to have a palace. You just wanted to look out for your students.-
That struck Izuku. He used to be close to him when he was still a child, and when Izuku was in high school. Now an adult, and the other, a teenager, he hadn't realized what he said hurt the boy.
"Kamishiro, I-!"
"I think that's enough."
Nagisa, shocked, saw Katayama approach them.
"I think that's enough questioning Kamishiro-kun, Mr. Deku."
"Miss Katayama-."
"As you can see, you're overwhelming him; it isn't healthy for him." Her gaze hardened. "As his homeroom teacher, I cannot overlook this."
Izuku nodded his head, understanding, and left to question different students.
"So, this is why you do what you do." She whispers, looking at Nagisa in sympathy.
"You... won't ask?" He asks.
She shakes her head. "I don't need to know right now." She says with a gentle smile. "But, if you're going to handle people as powerful as them, you're going to have to take me with you next time."
This caught him by surprise.
"But, didn't you say-"
"Yes, after you stole me and Akashi's hearts, I didn't want to get involved because of your complicated methods. But... Admittedly, I was scared something might happen to you and Ashiya-kun and the rest..."
"Sensei..."
"Now, after what happened, I can no longer stand by and watch you endanger yourself." She adjusted her glasses as her expression changed to serious. "This time, I want to help you. It's as you said, many adults, especially the pros, will ignore matters like these, as one myself, I can't allow children to do work like this, just because we were irresponsible."
Like that, in this timeline, the Phantom Thieves of Desires has gained a new member, an adult no less.
...
But as far as Nagisa could remember, in all the Timelines he's experienced, he had always had that disagreement with Izuku, the two never saying sorry too each other...
...
??? Timeline...
Motoha... Seiji... Riko... Kiyoshi... Runa...
All of them were dying, slowly fading away...
He's sorry...
He failed...
He failed again...
I'm sorry...
I'm so, so very sorry...
"W-what's happening?! Wait, Kamishiro-kun?!"
He isn't sure why. Maybe it's because he had a special quirk, that somehow, the Pro Hero Deku- no, Izuku was the only one who noticed him and his friends fading away...
"What's happening?! Why are you...?!"
"This is why we couldn't stop..." Motoha says, completely fading away after that,
The rest started saying their last words...
"We were given personas to prevail against this invisible ruin..." Seiji had completely faded away...
"We were chosen... But this was a curse... A curse to hold to save the world..." Kiyoshi followed after...
"It didn't matter if we never got the recognition like the Thieves of the past..." Riko then faded away...
"We just wanted to help people..." Runa says, tearing up, before she left as well...
"N-NO! KAMISHIRO STAY WITH ME! I'LL GET HELP, I-!"
"No..."
Nagisa stopped him.
"I'll start over again..."
Even if it means forming bonds all over again...
"I won't ever stop..."
Not until he finds a way to save his friends, and this world...
END OF NAGISA'S CHAPTER...
