Shane began to undress for the showers, folding his jersey and tucking it into his cubby. Out of nowhere, Hayden swung an arm around his shoulders, almost draping himself across Shane in a half-hug, half-wrestling move.
“What the fuck are you doing, Hayden?” Shane chuckled, trying to shove him off. He clung tightly.
“Go with it, dude,” Hayden muttered as he wheeled Shane around to face the rest of the room. He continued in a louder voice, “Captain says last one to shower is buying the whole team drinks! Hurry up, you slow pokes!!”
“Hayden, you wanna tell me what’s going on?”
“I have no idea what’s going on with you, man,” Hayden whispered, “but I respect your privacy, which is why I’m not going to ask you about the multiple hickeys on the back of your shoulder, even though I am very intrigued by how that happened.” He paused to raise an eyebrow and Shane buried his face in his hands, feeling his cheeks and neck burning.
“Fuck,” he exhaled. How could he let this happen? Ilya had to have known what he was doing, the little shit.
“The rest of the team, however, is not as respectful as I am,” Hayden added pointedly. “They are a bunch of gossipy little bitches, in fact, so I suggest you shower last unless you want to invite Lily to the next Boston game.”
He tousled Shane’s hair and went back to his own cubby.
Shane scrubbed his hands over his face, and reached behind him for his phone. He knew exactly how to pass the time while he waited to shower in privacy.
Jane: Hayden just saved my ass from having to explain why I have HICKEYS on my BACK you ASSHOLE
Lily: 😘
Jane: We cannot do that, we spend every day in the locker room!! Someone will see and ask me questions I don’t want to answer.
Lily: cannot do what?
Jane: Now I can’t shower with the team for DAYS and that’s gonna be suspicious! We need to be careful!
Lily: okay so next time I do where no one can see 😉
Jane: NO
Lily: i cannot help myself
Jane: Thank fuck it was Hayden who noticed.
Lily: really it is your fault you made me do it
Jane: I can’t believe I didn’t realize.
Jane: When did you even do this?!
Lily: I’ll let you think about it, enjoy the replay sweetheart
