Chapter 1: Did it really have to be?

Chapter Text

'did I really want this?' Yi han thought to himself as he slowed down while cutting the vegetables for the soup he promised everyone that he would make.

'Did I really have to die that day..' his thoughts cloud his mind, the day he graduated. The day when his life was going to start.. did he really have to die?.

He thinks about his life that he was taken from that day.
His parents,
His friends...
His teachers,
His diploma in his hands.
The happiest day of his life. The day he was finally done with studying, just to get hit by the truck.

That day he woke up in this world as someone new, he couldn't help but weep about his life and praise that his alive in a different world.
He doesn't know if his past world is still continuing.

'Are they still alive...do they miss me?' he thinks about his dad's face, the first time his dad truly looked happy with slight tears in his eyes. His mom's face.. the smile she had, her warm hands holding him..
He can't help but think about how his life is now. Of course, it's great with magic, his friends, the concepts as well, even the teachers are interesting here...
His past life wasn't as great but it was his, no matter how much stress and anxiety he had, no matter how much he loathed to study sometimes.. he misses it.
Yet even when he knows he'll never get it back, he misses his parents, his small friend group he had, his minor hobbies he never got to pursue...

'why did I die? Why couldn't it be some one else?' he didn't think he had to die so why did he die? Was it by the driver? The universe? Or his own luck?
He's grateful for his second chance yet, he still thinks it's unfair. His mind slips, he thinks of what he could've done.
Suddenly, he feels his body being shaken.

"-Han, Yi han!" It was Yonaie.
"Hm? Do you need something" Yi Han turned and saw Yonaire with Gianado and some other students.
"Yi han you don't have to make it- how bout you take a break man" Giando ushered him to the common lounge, the knife no longer in his hand.
He sat down as he's surrounded by his classmates, "Yi han.. is everything alright?" Asan asked. 'what?' Yi han was confused for a moment but was handed a handkerchief by Yonaire.
Oh.
He didn't realise his face was wet.
"... I'm fine" Yi han said as he took the handkerchief and wiped his tears. Gosh, how embarassing.
"Take rest Yi han, you've been taking care of everything so you should rest" Asan said with a hint of worry and gratitude.
'but I'm fine. Just reminiscing about my past that's all' But thoses words never came out. Instead he simply nodded.

His eyes never met anyone else's at that moment.
He closed his eyes.
'i guess I am tired...a quick two minute break..that's all...'

he finally stopped lying to himself and closed his eyes. He leans back on the soft sofa still thinking and wondering how lucky he is to be alive right now.
