Summary:

It's the morning after the night before, and Morgan and Oz are talking about how if their life were a TV show, fanfic writers wouldn't ship them together.

Work Text:

Oz was awakened by sun shining through Morgan’s window and also by Morgan lying in bed next to him laughing. He rolled over and kissed her behind the ear. “I hope my performance last night wasn’t as bad as all that!” he said.

“Oh, it’s not that at all,” she said, reaching back to grab his arm and wrap it around her. “No, I was just thinking about how if my life were a TV show, the fanfic writers would ship me and Karadec.”

“Because you’re partners at work,” Oz said, cuddling close behind her.

“That,” she said, pulling him closer to her, “and also because even you have to admit he’s handsome.”

“He’s not my type, obviously,” Oz said, “but for the sake of argument I’m willing to concede that.”

“How generous of you,” she said. “But even if we do concede that, that’s all he’s got going for him in this case. The negatives far outweigh the positives.”

“Such as?” Oz asked, leaning down to nibble on her ear.

“Well, for one thing, there’s his sense of humor.”

“Karadec has a sense of humor?” Oz asked in mock surprise.

“Exactly,” Morgan said. “Life’s too short to be taken seriously. I mean, you’ve met Ludo. If I have a type and Ludo fits in it — spoiler: I do and he does — then obviously a sense of humor is very important to me.”

“But maybe Karadec just keeps his sense of humor under wraps at work, and on his off-hours he’s hilarious,” Oz said, not entirely sure why he was suddenly arguing in favor of his competitor in Morgan’s hypothetical fanfiction.

Morgan shook her head. “Nope,” she said definitively. “I’ve been around him outside of work, and so have you. There isn’t some magical Karadec humor switch that gets flipped when he clocks out. Also, have you been to his apartment?” Oz nodded and she continued. “And you’ve obviously been to my house. Even if we’re generous to me and chalk up 50% of the mess to the kids, neither one of us could handle living with the other.”

“Maybe the fanfic writers would chalk it up to ‘opposites attract’?” Oz suggested.

“They could,” Morgan agreed. “After all, if they’re shipping me with Karadec, they’ve already shown they’re not very observant and they don’t have good judgment.”

“That’s true,” Oz agreed. “They also overlook wardrobes.”

“What are you talking about?” Morgan asked, rolling over to face Oz. “Your clothes are just buttoned-down as Karadec’s.” She was actually pretty sure where Oz was going with this; she just wanted to give him the pleasure of being the one to point it out.

“Well,” he said, reaching up to brush her hair out of her face. “You obviously dress like you’re younger than you actually are. Also, I’ve seen you wear zebra print, giraffe print, and leopard print, but I think that’s because no one makes clothes in cougar print.”

“You did not!” she exclaimed, faking indignation.

“You’ve already admitted you have a type,” Oz said, smiling. “Ludo’s younger than you, Karadec’s older than you, and here I am. . .”

Morgan leaned in and gave him a kiss. “Detective Ozdil, you’ve got a bright future ahead of you.”

Just then the alarm on his phone went off, startling them both. “Provided I can get to work on time,” he said, giving her another kiss as he jumped out of bed.

Morgan lay back and watched him get dressed. On consideration, she was rather glad that her life wasn’t a TV show: No TV show meant no Morgan/Karadec fanfic, and no Morgan/Karadec fanfic meant she didn’t have to live in a world where so many people could be so wrong about something so important to her.
