Lost Among The Stars (A Maximum Horsepower Poem)

Summary:

Based on the unmade Disney TV series Maximum Horsepower. Horace has been pondering a lot lately.

Work Text:

I was so tired of working in the shadows of others.

I was tired of being left in the dark.

All I wanted was a chance to show my potential as a lead.

To show them all what I could do.

If I hadn't marched to the boss's office.

These strange beings would have never dragged me into their spotlight.

I would still be on Earth, with everyone I know.

My bones would not have been altered.

Nor would I have the strength of a god.

I would have not been chosen by these beings, as a hero they needed the most.

These space folk expected all kinds of miracles from a horse who stumbled over lines and directions once or twice.

But here I am beyond the stars playing a new kind of lead.

A lead who improvised his tall tales.

A lead that's always in constant real danger.

A lead who was thrown at giant robots, monsters, evil dictators, and even space wizards!

I bluffed and boasted through brawls.

I dodged and recklessly navigated threats beyond comprehension.

And yet we still survive. Barely.

My name cheered like I was a legend.

I kept a smile on, even after I destroyed my only chance to go home.

The portal shattered completely, leaving me stranded billions of miles away.

Now at the far edge of the galaxy, where the stars are endless, I’m left to wonder:

Will there be a home to come back to, when it’s all over?

Will anyone recognize me?

Will I ever hold Clarabelle again?

I would give anything just to be home in her arms.
