Appearance
Jameson is a tall young man with warm ivory skin. He has thick black wavy hair that usually falls to his upper back in length and long bangs that fall over his eyes. His eyes are a shade of russet brown and his eyebrows are noticeably thick. On his face, long, pronounced tear-troughs are visible, giving him a more matured face compared to his peers. He brings a walking stick with a hooked handle, decorated with silver and gold embroidery wherever he goes.
He is occasionally seen with smudged black eyeshadow to pair with some of his outfits. While a neutral expression is shown most often, there is the occasional scheming smirk that can be seen.
Dorm Uniform
Jameson's uniform is similar to the rest of Pomefiore students only that his dark-purple winged eyeliner is layered above his black smudged eyeshadow. The uniform consists of a violet robe, a black button-up shirt underneath, black pants, and black and gold heeled boots.
Jameson's violet robe reaches his knees in length. The underlining is deep-red, with an intricate baroque pattern depicting several poisoned apples. Also underneath most parts of the robe is a layer of black sheer fabric.
His robe folds at the front in a kimono-like fashion. The sleeves open up at the shoulders, and reach the knees in length. Both sleeves have a gold, baroque pattern near the ends. The left shoulder of the robe also has this patterning, and includes the symbol of Pomefiore. On the chest area of the robe are three golden straps, with a design similar to that of a marching band uniform. Around his waist is a wide, black sash, with a red rope over it, tied on his left side. The ends of the rope also reach the knees in length, and has large red and yellow tassels at the ends.
The black button-up shirt worn underneath his robe has long sleeves and a white, wingtip collar. The ends of the sleeves have a lace-like pattern, and a single loop that goes around the middle finger. His black pants have a leather-like shine to them. The heeled boots are mostly black, but the laces, soles, and toe cap are colored gold. On the back of the boots is a gold baroque design.
Personality
Jameson is the embodiment of "perfect form". He carries himself with a rigid naval posture and speaks with a sharp, commanding eloquence. To the underclassmen, he is a terrifying taskmaster who views a one-minute delay as a personal affront. However, his arrogance is merely a defensive shell. He has a moral obligation to be always prepared due to his upbringing. Deep down, he is haunted by the realisation that life is a countdown and there is no turning back. He does not want power for its sake, but wants to be able to control time itself so that it can never take anything from him ever again.
Background
Jameson was born into a prestigious family in the Queendom of Roses where his father was a legendary admiral who valued discipline, timing, and elegance above everything. He would spend most of his life at sea before being enrolled into Night Raven College. He looked up to his father as a role model in life despite the many punishments he had received for being late to dinner for instance. Even when he was only five seconds late, he would be locked up in a cabin where a metronome would keep him company. Unfortunately for him, he was always "tardy" as his father would call him. As he grew older, his obsession for punctuality started, all in the name of looking up to the Captain, his father.
During a naval gala on the fleet, a young Jameson fell overboard into the water, inhabited by crocodile beastmen where he almost lost his whole right leg in the process. It was his gifted pocket watch that saved him from the physical injury that day, having it shoved into the beastman's throat. Even so, he is still haunted by the incident, every sound of a ticking clock and a ringing bell bringing back the memories. That is why he uses a walking stick to anchor his rigid stance.
Whenever he is angry or stressed, he is able to hear the phantom ticking at the back of his head, unheard by others. To him, it feels like a countdown of his own failure of death. He finds solace in restoring timekeeping devices as he is able to be in control over the ticking.
On his 18th birthday, he took over his fleet as the next captain after his father.
His vocabulary includes that of pirate lingo that occasionally slips out in times of exclamations or high stake events.
Signature Spell
"Look into the gears of destiny and hear your end. Termination Bell!"
His signature spell, "Termination Bell" summons a massive, spectral clock face that pulses with an oppressive golden light. The rhythmic "ticking" sound bypasses physical hearing and resonates directly in the targets' minds. Victims start to lose their sense of timing either faster or slower. It effectively turns a master strategist into a clumsy amateur.
Trivia
- His first name is taken from the meaning of "supplanter", a person who takes the place of another, often through cunning, force, or strategy, effectively displacing or overthrowing them which ties to his background as a pirate, while his surname is taken from the French word for "Hook", "Crochet"
- His surname, Crochet, is also a pun on his "hook" inspiration, but he often gets annoyed when students ask if he knows how to knit
- Jameson is based on Captain Hook, the antagonist of Peter Pan (the film)
- He doesn't drink rum regularly, favouring apple cider instead
- Jameson respects Vil immensely as his housewarden and a classmate. He views Vil's pursuit of beauty as a parallel to his own pursuit of order. They often clash over the details of aesthetics, but they have a common ground in their shared disdain for sloppiness
- None of his family members are mages, therefore magic is something he picked up on his own.
- He likes sketching and drawing maps
- He picked up on fencing ever since he was a child, having daily sparring sessions with the rest of his crew
- He is able to understand the language of fae, but only limited to diurnal fae. This a reference to the "Fairies" of Neverland.
- He despises mushy food. Everything he eats must have a distinct crunch or firm texture—a habit from years of eating hardtack and fresh-caught, firm fish at sea.
- In the Science Club, he is obsessed with "Time-Dilation" potions. He wants to create a brew that makes a single minute feel like an hour, purely so he can get more work done
- His best subject is astrology not because he believes in horoscopes, but because he spent years using the stars to navigate the Seven Seas. He can tell exactly what time it is and his precise coordinates just by glancing at the sky.
- His stick isn't just for his leg. It is weighted and balanced for combat. It features a concealed spring mechanism that allows him to use the hook to disarm opponents during fencing
- Vil once tried to take away Jameson's walking stick for a gala, claiming it ruined the silhouette of the robes. Jameson nearly challenged Vil to a duel on the spot. They eventually compromised by having the stick embroidered with gold and silver to match the Pomefiore aesthetic.
- While he speaks with high-class Pomefiore eloquence, he occasionally slips into pirate slang when surprised or angry. He has been known to call Grim a "scurvy bilge-rat" and has once told Ace to "walk the plank"
- He has an extreme, visceral reaction to the smell of swamp water or the sound of something dragging across a floor. He refuses to enter Monstro Lounge if there are any "reptilian" guests present.
- While most students find the clock tower bells at NRC helpful, Jameson suffers from "phantom ticking" during exams. He often wears noise-canceling earplugs disguised as jewelry to keep his focus.
