Like most mornings, Jake wakes up before the roosters begin to crow. Wiping down the marble countertops, then the cast iron, and perhaps the eggs as well. When you’re best friends with someone for more than ten years, you learn all sorts of things about them, even the way they prefer their eggs. Know that Albert isn’t the pickiest when it comes to food. Even with his stubborn exterior, he would gladly devour a pile of dirt if he knew his Jakey made it.
