Chapter Text
It hit midnight, and there Adrien was smiling on his phone giggling at the messages he was receiving with the illuminating glow of his phone screen. It was starting to get late, but Adrien didn’t care- it wasn’t much that Adrien got to speak to his friend, so he tried to message him as most as he could throughout the day. The reason why they didn’t talk much was because Leo, his friend, lived in a different Country, and small town, far away from the bustling streets of Paris, so communication was less between the two. However, their relationship was still great. Adrien had met Leo in Paris so they had seen each other in real life, until Leo had to move, which wasn’t too long after (about a couple months) since they were friends.
For once he needed an escape, and tonight Adrien got that. He was away from his room where he felt like he was being kept as a prisoner. He was away from his life of fame and expectation- everyone always expected something from him. He was away from his tiring life as a superhero. Everything was put aside for just this night, he felt calm and free for once, like he didn't have to worry about anything.
Aside him was a beautiful boy- Leo. Although Adrien would never say it to him aloud, heck, he could barely articulate his newfound feelings for the boy. Was it love, was it admiration? Maybe it was both- Adrien couldn't say. Leo was sat on the ground beside him as they watched the stars parade, so bright, so beautiful, so full of hope. “This is nice,” the raven haired boy broke the silence, his gaze ripping apart from the night sky onto the pretty blonde next him. How could he resist the sight?
Adrien smiled and agreed, “Yeah, it is,” he quietly sighed in relief. “To be away from everything. It's so calming, and the sky is so pretty.” Adrien's gaze stayed stuck onto the midnight sky. His overwhelming thoughts vanished for now. Him and Leo, they were so close, yet they weren't even physically touching.
Adrien had the urge to move closer but he didn't want to make it awkward, though he was sure that it most likely wouldn't, but he didn't want to risk it regardless. “It is,” Leo agreed with Adrien even though his gaze was on something more pretty. “You deserve a break.”
This made Adrien's head turn and now the two were making eye contact. Leo didn't ask a question, but it looked like Adrien wanted an answer. “You have a super busy schedule plus school, and you're great at all of it. And besides, you're always doing what people ask and making them happy. And your own father barely lets you do what you want!” There was much more that Leo could have said/explained, but the main thing was that Adrien does a lot -maybe even too much- and he's great for it but needs a break. Adrien gave him a strange look mixed with confusion and surprise. “The thing is, you're amazing- too amazing! You deserve more.” Leo spoke with passion, it made Adrien gleeful.
During the night, Adrien could barely sleep, his excited feelings kept him up. Their encounter that night, just made Adrien's feelings for the boy increase. He couldn't stop giggling, externally and internally. “I'm glad I snuck out,” The blonde mess whispered to himself more than Plagg. The kwami made a small sound and gave his holder a knowing smile. Adrien's hands covered his peach face in realisation. He couldn't escape his feelings any longer, especially after he just recognised what they were. “Plagg…” The kwammi curiously looked at the kid who had a wide grin under his hands having an idea of what his next words were going to be. “I think I'm,” He took a pause, trying to process it himself, "In love.”
The next morning Adrien had woken up tired and groggy. He probably should’ve taken more rest, but he couldn’t stop thinking about Leo the whole night. The dawning realisation that Adrien had feelings for Leo kept him up for nearly the whole night. How could he have not fallen in love with that face? But one question was lurking in his mind, how did Leo feel? Maybe one day Adrien would build up the courage to ask him, however for now he needs to build up the momentum to get out of bed and get on with his day as usual.
Today, Natalie had rushed the tired Agreste to hurriedly get changed and be ready so he would be on time for school. He didn't really care if he was a little late, but he still made it on time. Class was boring and the day was dragging on, “Okay Adrien one more period after this.” He internally told himself, and then Nino had told him the great news. “Dude, something happened and now our class has a free period!” Adrien’s eyes widened in happiness. He could finally rest. Of course Adrien wasn't going to ask to be picked up earlier, no.
With a smirk on his face he pulled his phone out and immediately started to message Leo.
Since Leo had moved to France, he hadn't gone to school so he was free/doing nothing a lot of the time.
Adrien: Hey, I have a free period now. Are you free?
Leo: Of course I am, I have nothing to do. So, where do you want to meet?
After both of them had agreed at meeting by Andre’s ice cream cart for some delicious ice cream which both had been craving, they spent a few more minutes sending each other more texts as they were walking. “Plagg, this is perfect,” Adrien smiled as his kwami flew out and absorbed all surroundings. “You can finally make a move, only if it were camembert.” Plagg squeaked out excitedly for Adrien flying towards his eye level. “It’s going to be so romantic,” Adrien started to lightly daydream, “But no Plagg, I am not going to make a move today,” Plagg slightly frowned at his owner, “Why not? Now or never.” Adrien didn’t know how he felt about that, he barely comprehended his feelings about the boy yet, and thought that it would be too soon. Besides, he didn’t want his friendship to falter if Leo doesn’t feel the same way- there were a lot of things that Adrien had thought about, negative things. Sure, there could be positives too if things go right, but the negatives were just scary and Adrien didn’t want to risk things just yet.
