    As the day continued he let the words burn him. With the way his body responded, he wondered if the words poisoned him with an invisible infection. He scratched at his arms, wanting to see physical effects of the way his skin seemed to be burning from the inside out. 

    “…you and chain of command.” 

    It was a mocking condemnation. 

    It was a damning accusation. 

    And Eddie hated it. 

    He hated that Buck could see how much he needed it. 

    Or: Eddie tries breaking the rules, wanting to prove to Buck he doesn't need to follow the chain of command. When he inevitably fails, he drops and fortunately for him Buck is right there to catch him when he falls.
