Drunken confessions

Summary:

So this is a bit of my own headcanons but also I’m trying to make it as canon as possible lol (since I like them and I don’t want to mischaracterize them)

So basically, Kaveh drunkenly confesses one night, only met with a simple “hm” from Alhaitham. Even though time has passed, Alhaitham still brings it up. Especially during arguments and Kaveh eventually gets fed up.

Notes:

Pls note that I’m not very well with English (I speak Norwegian more and my English is insanely trash)

So grammar and spelling will be messed up a lot! Please don’t comment about it, it makes really annoyed 🙁

Update: sorry for not being so active via writing wise, got sent to the ER cause of chronic migraines and inflammation from walking pneumonia and now I got a sore throat and can’t speak 🥹

Work Text:

Kaveh, the architect known for his brokenness despite such a job. He was also known for being the roommate of Alhaitham, the scribe of the akademiya. The two were very known for their constant arguments and their relationship, especially being suspected as being more than just some roommates.

Kaveh and Alhaitham met during their akademiya days. Kaveh unexpectedly fell for Alhaitham, not knowing what was truly coming. Alhaitham was the same, except he fell harder. After the huge argument that split them apart, Alhaitham’s feelings never faded, just hidden.

Now, since the two were roommates after Kaveh went bankrupt and Alhaitham offered him a place to stay, Kaveh’s feelings grew despite wanting not so. The constant arguments shook things between them even more, Kaveh had to admit Alhaitham did become more annoying over the years.

One night, things would take a change. Kaveh and Alhaitham were at the local bar, Tighnari and Cyno unfortunately could not join due to their own personal issues so the two were just there with other people in the bar. Kaveh, already drunk off his ass, didn’t mind the background noise of the bar. He was more focused on Alhaitham’s look, he looked out of it due to his drunken state and his cheeks were flushed.

“You know…” Kaveh said suddenly, his words slurred. “Did you ever really realize my feelings for ya…? I mean, with how stupidly smart you are, I wouldn’t be surprised if you did.” Kaveh then went back to simply drinking. His words were only meant with “hm.” From Alhaitham.

Now, a week has passed since the incident and now the two were arguing like always. Kaveh was annoyed due to Alhaitham moving his paintings after he hung them up to show them off. Kaveh was definitely on the verge of snapping, his jaw clenched tight and his eyes narrowed. His arms were placed in a crossed position and Kaveh spoke, his voice laced with pure annoyance. “You know, you’re being a jackass. If you didn’t want my paintings up, you could’ve just said “could you please move your paintings” or something like that! At least give me a warning first as well!”

Alhaitham, a book in his hand, was more focused on his book than anything. His expression stoic and his voice blank. “Well aren’t you one to talk about warnings? I mean, where was the warning when you drunkenly confessed?”

Kaveh immediately froze up. He didn’t remember much from the night as he was drunk off his ass. He tried to form a response, only sputtering “uh-“ “uhm-“ “eh.”
Kaveh eventually could form some words and spoke “Well I was drunk! Cut me some slack!

One of Alhaitham’s eyebrows raised a slight, he kept his stoic expression and spine once more “well let’s put it this way, you were drunk but aren’t you more honest when drunk? Especially when talking about me to Tighnari and Cyno, especially when you were talking about my strength that one time.”

Kaveh groaned and put his hands on his hips, annoyed. “Well that doesn’t mean you have to bring up my drunken confession, I mean this is an argument about you moving my paintings, NOT about my drunk self and the confession said that night. Besides, we are only roommates. Nothing else!”

Alhaitham just rolled his eyes. “Sure.” Alhaitham shifted his focus back on his book, which made Kaveh even more infuriated. Kaveh walked over to where Alhaitham was sitting, which was the couch, and stood beside it. He huffed, his lips twitched up on the side. He began poking Alhaitham’s arm, trying to get his attention.

Alhaitham didn’t pay much mind to it though, only focusing on his book. Kaveh furrowed his brows slightly and spoke “well aren’t you going to tell me where the paintings are? I mean seriously, you can’t end an argument and expect me not to question where my paintings are.”

Alhaitham finally looked up from his book, looking Kaveh in the eye. He replied “And why should I tell you?”
Alhaitham paused for a moment before resuming his words. “They’re in the spare closet by my room.”

Kaveh finally stopped poking Alhaitham’s arm and looked a bit satisfied, still insanely annoyed though. He began walking away but paused and looked back at Alhaitham and spoke “Don’t hide them away from me next time, and also don’t bring up that damn drunken confession after this. Got it?” And with that, Kaveh turned the corner and Alhaitham was left alone in the main room.

Later that night, Kaveh was currently working on some blueprints for a client. He was hunched over his art desk, his paintings retrieved from earlier were on the side on his bed. He rubbed his eyes, feeling the sleepiness catching up to him but he had to finish it within deadline so he wanted to get most of it done tonight.

Kaveh yawned, his eyes drooping slightly but he kept drawing. After a few moments, he stretched, his form stretching out like a cat. He put down his pencil and leaned back in his chair. He decided to get some water before he would resume. He stood up, his ankles cracking as he got up. He opened his room door and began walking to the kitchen. While on his way, he walked into the main room, where he was met with Alhaitham, still up and reading.

Kaveh scoffed, he walked over to Alhaitham and crossed his arms. He uncrossed one of his arms to reach out and lower the book down, his face a couple inches away, not too close but definitely somewhat close.

Kaveh then spoke “Why are you even up? I mean you would usually be in your room, probably asleep or something.”

Alhaitham replied. “I could ask you the same.” Alhaitham said blankly, he tried raising the book back up but Kaveh didn’t budge. Alhaitham spoke once more “Now will you let me go back to reading?”

Kaveh huffed, his mind still running about on the memory of Alhaitham calling him out on his drunken confession. He replied “Let me ask you something real quick and then I won’t bother you. Why did you even bring up the drunken confession of mine??”

Alhaitham kept eye contact with Kaveh as he spoke back “It was mainly just to catch you off guard. Why? Still on about it?”

Kaveh immediately looked unamused. “So no other reason?” Kaveh sighed and let go of Alhaitham’s book. “…But can I also ask what you said in return?” Kaveh looked curious, he couldn’t deny that his heart was slightly racing with the curiosity of what Alhaitham said back that night.

“I didn’t say anything back. You were drunk.” Alhaitham shrugged. Kaveh immediately frowned but understood where Alhaitham was coming from at least, for once…

“Well since I’m sober now… may I ask what you would’ve said if I wasn’t drunk?” Kaveh asked

“You wouldn’t say such things sober.” Alhaitham said, his statement was true. Kaveh wouldn’t say such things unless he was met with “I bet you can’t say such things sober” type of responses.

Kaveh groaned and spoke, “you’re hopeless.” Kaveh crossed his arms once more “okay, let’s put it like this. What if I would say such things sober? What would be your response then?”

Alhaitham paused and took a moment to consider Kaveh’s words. He sighed and crossed his arms over his chest and spoke “why are you so curious about it? I mean it isn’t much of a big deal.”

Kaveh groaned and spoke again, “I know but cmon! You can’t help me for being curious about it..”

Kaveh sighed and spoke, “Can.. you just answer the question?”

“Well I suppose I should because you’ll just keep pestering me about it. I guess I’d say that I had I guess mutual feelings. But I doubt it would work out now.” Alhaitham shrugs.

Kaveh looked dumbfounded, a bit shocked that Alhaitham ended up actually admitting it. He huffed after a moment and spoke, “Well. I didn’t expect you to admit that.”

“You don’t really expect any words that come from me, I’m being honest.” Alhaitham was truthful within his words. Kaveh couldn’t really expect anything that came out of Alhaitham’s mouth.

“Well I guess you’re right. For once. But we can’t exactly.. you know.. just not do anything about you know. You know what I mean.” Kaveh sighed, he sat beside Alhaitham on the couch while the room filled with an awkward silence.
