Work Text:
The night was quiet, yet y/n found themselves awake and staring at the ceiling of their bedroom, which they shared with their currently sleeping husband. They knew they wouldn't be able to sleep again once they woke up, no matter the time they were awake and there was no chance of falling back asleep.
Slowly and quietly, they kicked their legs out from under the covers and stood up, trying not to disturb Tsukishima. With a quick glance at the snow falling outside, they grabbed one of Tsukishima's sweatshirts, which was much too big on them, and left the bedroom carefully to not stumble over anything in the dark
Once at the front door, they slipped on their shoes and quietly opened the door, stepping outside into the cold, soft night.
There was something so soft and quiet yet extremely loud about the slowly falling snow. There was something even more almost, comforting in an odd way about how they enjoyed seeing their breath in the cold night. Like the world's letting then know, yes, you're still alive.
They sat down on the front porch steps, the concrete cold even through their pants. Their breath hitches when they hear their husband's soft voice behind them, "Trying to catch a cold?" He chuckles low and softly. When did he even open the door and step out? Guess they wouldn't know. He sits down beside them, handing a cup of warm coffee (or whatever drink you like :]) towards them. They take it with a small smile.
"Here," the silence stretches for a second as they both watch the snow, "You... alright?" He asks almost awkwardly, despite being married for nearly five years, asking questions like that were unsurprisingly, still weird for Tsukishima.
They nod, "Yeah, just.. couldn't go back to sleep, you know. The usual." He nods in understanding, they speak again but more softly, "Why is the snow so loud yet so quiet?"
"Loud? And quiet?" He listens for a second, "Maybe it's only so loud because we aren't used to it being so quiet," they chuckle quietly in return.
"When did you get so philosophical Kei?" They say with a grin, he, of course, just rolls his eyes.
"I don't know what you're talking about, I'm always like that." He takes a sip of his mug, while y/n's sits untouched in their hands. He sets his mug down beside him and takes you mug setting it down to before he carefully takes their hand in his, "You know you can talk to me," he says softly, thumbs rubbing circles into their knuckles.
"I know,"
They both sit together in the quiet night for a while, letting the quiet yet loud snow fill the silence.
"I love you Kei." y/n finally says softly.
"I know you do," he replies in his normal attitude before he say softer,
"I love you too."
