Summary
Vickie understands secrecy; she truly does. She understands fear. Hawkins in the eighties is not exactly a postcard destination for queer girls dreaming of a future together. Vickie gets it. God, she gets it. She understands the particular violence of being queer in Indiana, where loving another girl feels like walking around with a loaded gun pressed to your spine, waiting for one single fuck up. Add interdimensional horrors and nasty government cover-ups to the mix, and secrecy starts to look a lot like survival.
But understanding why something is the way it is doesn’t make it ache any less. And God, does Vickie ache.
Or: Vickie is trying very hard to feel normal in the aftermath of the Upside Down, a task that would be monumentally easier if her girlfriend would just stop avoiding her. When she learns, by accident, that Robin has moved in with Steve, everything she’s been holding back finally spills over. Vickie has to wonder if there’s any version of Robin’s future that includes her.
