   the way you read Barnes as soon as they are in the gym gives me the chills and oh so many emotions... (the difference between regular Barnes and him disassociating is so clear, it's amazing) especially the way you say, "he doesn't want it"

   btw, is it just me or is this chapter a bit softer in volume than the others?

      It's not you, it's me, lol. Actually it's Audacity not having any way (that I know of - please tell me anybody who does!) to normalize volume across different audio files. I try to always sit in the same spot about the same distance from the mic, but right around this time I moved my whole setup.

      I got A LOT of practice voicing Disassociating!Bucky while doing Rate of Recidivism. That poor guy spent half his time checked out, sigh, usually with no warning, so I had to make it VERY clear when it was happening with just my voice. Not sure how to add that to my resume, lol! :D

   Oh bless you for taking on this project. This, You Protect is quite possibly my favourite Bucky story. It keeps the tragedy of the character in place but lightens it for the readers in a very clever way. And I love DustySoul's reading of it.

   I had pretty much given up hope for hearing the rest of the series podficed.

   Thank-God for you. I'm really enjoying it and also bless you for being such a regular updater. Can't wait to hear more. :)

       Yes! I know what you mean - this story walks the tightrope between humor and angst like no other. Like Sams keeps pointing out, the Bucky in this story should not be dealing as well as he is. It's almost as if, and I'm no wordsmith, but it's like he's using his trauma to deal with his trauma? Which is the ultimate f*ck you to Hydra - I'm gonna take what you did to me and use it as a framework to rebuild myself as a functional human being - different yes, and a bit quirky, but hey, we've all got our little coping mechanisms.

       Glad you're liking the podfic - I've got Dusty's memorized practically, I love it so!

    I’ve read this and listened to this a few times, though it’s been a while. I listened to this chapter during my commute this morning, and it’s just such a gut punch. You embue everyone with such life. I think Natasha particularly shines in this chapter. Thank you for sharing your gifts with fandom!

       Unlike Steve, I will attend to Admiration Plant with great care. The guy is a little distracted, so I guess we should cut him some slack.

       I know I read Barnes totally diff than DustySoul did in the first story and that can be jarring, but, that's how I hear him in my head - nothing to be done. Glad you like him!

          I am fine with your reading of Barnes. I don't find the differences with DustySoul's version problematic.

          Actually, that might possibly be related to my enjoyment of Echolalaphile's reading of Barnes for Feather (lalaietha)'s series, (even if i could) make a deal with god [your blue-eyed boys related short-fic]. That series is heavier on the angst than Infinite Coffee, but it's very well done and the delightful parts are marvelous, including some OCs that rival owlet's Olds. Echo's reading of Feather's Barnes has some similarities to yours. :)

You read this so well, the bits where Bucky was reciting facts, the bits where the Briefing was frantically trying to stop him, your Sam, your Steve...painful to listen to but so well done. And yes, I ignored your reader's note and listened on the way to work, and yes, smiling was 1000% more difficult...

    Amazing reading. Another commenter said it before but it is even more devastating to actually hear Bucky say all these horrible things out loud than read them. I mean, it crushed me in the fic that Mission keeps trying to get Bucky from not reveal too much to Steve because, you know, mission protect. Hearing it, OMG. You do an awesome job of keeping mission, briefing and mission head distinct.

       I was pretty uptight about doing this chapter - the trauma, the voices, all of it. THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MY CHEER UP FIC! But I forgot about the dread Chap 11. I listened to the final edit on my way to a party - such a terrible mistake! I had to pretend to smile and be cheery for 3 hours - it was awful! You are so right that it's SO MUCH WORSE hearing it than reading it, even for me listening to my own voice. (although my recorded voice sounds nothing like what I hear when I talk, so it's almost like I'm listening to someone else really)

       You always leave such amazing comments - it's so encouraging! <3<3<3 Thanks a billion, as always!

    Really well done. Excellent, evocative reading.

    Edit: From the other comments I'm guessing this is not the usual reaction, but in both the original and this podfic this chapter was a great relief after Chapters 8 to 10. The moment of MISSION PROTOCOLS VIOLATED forward is awful - suffering and self-loathing and misunderstanding - and this is the point where Barnes and Steve are finally out of the storm. It may be a sucky place, but it's a place where things are really clearly getting better, not worse. That's what I hold on to, things getting better, and this is where I can reach that conviction again. Where my own personal mission stops screaming at me, I suppose.

    Thank you again for recording this, and so well.

       Thank you so much for the wonderful comments! And I agree, this chapter does have a sort of draining the wound thing going on - I loved recording it, even though I had to go for the tissues after listening. My favorite bit is when he decides, hell with it, might as well tell everything and get it all out there now that we've gone this far. There is a tremendous sense of relief when it's all DONE. Everything's out in the open and now everybody can actually Deal, or start to anyway.

    I've read this story three times, but I actually started crying listening to your reading of this chapter. The story is painful enough to read, so the way you make your voice quaver and highlight the differences between Barnes and Bucky/Briefing speaking makes it even SADDER. This whole thing is incredible. Thank you for creating this!
