   Particularly nice voice work on this chapter! I could really hear the distinctions between Esther and Lidia, between rueful Barnes and rueful Steve at the end, and, spectacularly, between Barnes' no to Sam about talking more and his following no about not wanting Sam to leave. The nuances in that second no are brilliant!

   A thought, during my present re-listening: you read Barnes's speech and narration in a very flat affect that seems incredibly fitting for him. It's incredibly expressive but with the expressions turned down to a whisper. And it makes for a neat effect at the beginning of this chapter, when the hypothetical replies Barnes thinks of for Steve are flattened and Steve's actual words have a normal affect.

   Just ... I love subtle. And your performance of Barnes is all subtle.

      Thank you so much for the input! I don't plan this stuff out in advance, I just read it the way it sounds in my head, and half the time I'm not even conscious of little things like this. So it's beyond encouraging and incredibly helpful when listeners notice this stuff and point it out to me. I make mental notes of things for future projects.

      I wasn't sure listeners would like the way I read Barnes in this story. Owlet makes pretty clear that his outward affect is generally very flat, since Steve definitely notices when he occasionally slips into Bucky-voice, and he himself notices when he achieves a more expressive tone, like when he stops them crossing the street. But obviously the inside of his head is absolutely jam packed with all these very lively thoughts and emotions and internal conversations. I love Steve's line, "Bucky, you have opinions about everything!" Like Hydra didn't erase his self (selves) so much as imprison; confinement and restraint rather than pain, which he barely seems to register except as it impedes function. That dichotomy between inside and outside is probably the main thing I like about this fic actually - the way he has to fight his way out of his own head, which is both a refuge and a cage. And all of that is probably very obvious and I'm rambling now. Hey, after 31 chapters even I start to have Thoughts!

      I like subtle too! But it's a fine line between subtle and uh-oh-no-one-noticed, so thanks again.

    I've listened to all the 18 chapters that are up, many of them numerous times. It's so wonderful to have (and get) this fic as a podfic.        Yeah, my timing was off on this one - I'm reading about snow days and it's like, a million degrees when I am, lol! But seize the day and all that. If I didn't do it now while rl is kinda slow it wasn't gonna happen. My whole attitude on this project has been "Well, It's Gotta Be Better Than Nothing, Right?!" So I am just tra-la-la blithely ignoring all the clicks and pops, random volume changes, my rampant sinusitis, my total inability to get a handle on Clint's voice, and all the other things that would normally drive me crazy! It's been very freeing really. ;)

    Thanks for doing this!! If this sounded weird, being read by another person after This, You Protect, it lasted maybe five minutes. You + this = great match. You're doing such a great job <3
    I was thinking at the beginning that things were going suspiciously well, but I was Not Prepared for the pain. I don't think I've been this close to tears over a fic in a while! I partially blame/thank your amazing reading :)

    Ive been listening to AvidReaderLady’s Podfic of this story, but due to life being life, she has only released up to Chapter 17 at this stage, so here I am. I am in full spring cleaning mode at the moment, trying to cull the vast assortment of things that we collect through life, trying to keep only those things I truly love or need, and getting rid of all the rest. And this well-loved story has been a fantastic accompaniment.

    So thank you so much for the time you have spent reading this for us indulgent listeners. You capture these dear souls so well. This was a particularly glorious, moving and joyful chapter, so well written and beautifully read. Thanks again. Sending heaps of hugs and best wishes.
