Notes:

Inspired by this post https://pin.it/4evlh15xl that I could not get out of my head. This is my first fic and I whipped it up at 2am last night in my phone's notes app, so it's not super polished but I hope you enjoy! :)

Work Text:

All the world was green. A vile, blinding green, the kind that makes her heart lurch. All the world was green, and electric and liquid and four condescening eyes staring at her and Catra woke with a shuddering breath. Pale moonlight flooded the bedroom as a soothingly cool breeze made the curtains dance in the night. No, the world was not green. He was gone, just as he had been the night before, and the night before, and every other night since. Her tight grip on the bed sheets loosened fractionally as she caught sight of Adora next to her, golden hair spread across the pillows. The sight would be downright majestic if it wasn't interrupted by a loud snore, startling but also grounding Catra. Her legs itched to move, though, to keep her awake, her eyes open, away from that terrible dream that had haunted her every night for the last few months. With painstaking care so as not to wake Adora, she slipped out of their room and let her feet lead the way.

When Adora woke, her hand flashed to her side. When she pulled it back, wet and green just like that night, her breath caught in her throat. After a second, her brain caught up with her panic, and she took a breath. No, it supplied, look again. The moisture was merely sweat; her hand wasn't stained green. There was no infected gash, no looming monster, and, Adora realized, no Catra. The other side of the bed was empty, sheets ruffled and cool to the touch. The spark of panic that had nearly been snuffed out roared back to life as Adora scrambled out of bed, calling out her love's name. Getting no response, she wrapped their blanket around her shoulders and let her feet lead the way.

The Brightmoon kitchens were silent as Adora entered, her footsteps the only sound in the night. Catra did not look up from where she sat on the edge of a counter, fists clenched and a half-eaten snack forgotten beside her. Her heterochromatic eyes, previously fixated on the floor, flicked up to Adora as she approached. Neither said anything as they leaned forward into each other. They stayed like that, Adora standing between Catra's legs, foreheads pressed together like their love was the last safe place on Etheria.

In a few hours, during their habitual late-night snack raid, Bow and Glimmer will stumble across the pair, asleep and still leaning on each other. A particularly loud purr from Catra as they wrap the fallen blanket around their shoulders will spark a coo from Bow and earn him an elbow from Glimmer, though she will be smiling too. In the morning, when the Brightmoon kitchen staff find their morning shift cancelled, Glimmer will feign ignorance and Bow will hide a smile.

But for now, it is just Adora and Catra. They are together, and they are home.
