Work Text:

Ghoul could always tell when Kobra wasn’t having a good week.

The way he stared silently. His eyes were heavy like his thoughts.

Maybe I should just run away.

Ghoul could practically read his boyfriend’s mind at this point, and it was killing him.

So when Ghoul awoke to itself spooning the much taller Kobra as he’d kindly and quietly asked for last night, staring down at all of varied scars on his wrists, it knew it had to help his boyfriend.

Ghoul yawned into Kobra’s neck, which alerted Kobra that the smaller was awake. Ghoul rose its neck to see over Kobra, getting an idea when he spotted the markets Jet bought for them two from Tommy’s. He reached for the pack, grabbing them successfully when they slipped by the mattress.

“You look sad, baby.” Ghoul sleepily kissed Kobra’s neck. He took out the red, yellow, and green markers.

“What’re you doing?” Kobra’s voice was quiet—not like he ever spoke too loudly, but it had that tinge of nothingness to it. The one that people in Batt City often had, the one that pissed Ghoul the fuck off. It kissed Kobra’s shoulder. It liked Kobra’s tan skin, even with all the bumps and bruises and rivets. He was perfect.

“Coloring.” It mumbled into Kobra’s neck, uncapping the red and yellow markers and using the red one to draw little stars over the inside of his left forearm. He did the same with the yellow marker on that arm, scattering all of the little stars across the bumpy skin.

“These go here ‘cause you’re left handed. And those are your colors. So it’s like you.”

Kobra couldn’t help but grin. Ghoul certainly had a way with things.

“And what are the stars for? Jet’s the one with Star in her name.” His voice was lighter now. Still not fully Kobra, but Ghoul would take it. Seeing Kobra feel better made it happy.

“Dunno. Just like stars, they’re pretty. Like you.” He grinned into Kobra’s neck, looking up to see if he was blushing. Sure enough, his cheeks and ears were tinged red. He was easy to compliment.

“Sh-shut… Shush.”

“Nope! s’true.” Ghoul giggled, capping the red marker and uncapping the green one. He got to work drawing more little stars on Kobra’s right arm, repeating the process with the yellow marker as well.

“An’… An’ this arm is like, my colors. So you can look at your non-dominant hand n’ see me there, ‘cause I can take care of the things you can’t.”

Kobra let out a soft huff. He craned his neck over to Ghoul, flopping over to face it.

“Ghoulie, you’re the best thing to ever happen to me.” He pulled it in close for a firm hug. Ghoul hugged back, wanted Kobra to know how much he meant.

“I wanna be next to you forever.”

“And I love being yours.”

Kobra reached down slowly, letting Ghoul meet him in the middle for a soft and much-needed kiss. It was all warm and fuzzy for a while, one of Ghoul’s hands braced on Kobra’s jaw.

The long moment was interrupted by none other than Party Poison dragging open the curtain separating Kobra and Ghoul’s room from the dining area.

“Boys! It’s time for breakfast, we got fresh PowerPup in!”

Kobra begrudgingly separated his lips from his lover, not turning around to face them.

“Dive streetside, Poison. Let me enjoy my morning with my beautiful joyfriend.”

Kobra leaned back down to kiss Ghoul’s nose, who snickered softly and nudged its head back up to continue their previous kiss.

“Ugh, gross..”

They turned around and left towards the direction of the booths, likely to join Jet.

It was all warm and fuzzy again for a few more minutes until Ghoul’s stomach stared growling, which made Kobra pull back to giggle at him.

“Hungry?”

“Just maybe.” Ghoul leaned up and pecked Kobra’s nose. “One more for the road.”

It patted Kobra’s cheek, sitting up eagerly. Kobra followed a moment later.

“Thank you. Really. I’m lucky to have you.”

“I’d sell the sun for you, Kobra Kid.”

The grin plastered across Ghoul’s face reminded Kobra why he got up every morning.

For this idiot.

“Never change, Fun Ghoul.”
