Chapter Text
Since I was young I've heard one word countless times
'don't'
"Girls don't climb trees
or play with bugs
Girls have tea parties
and play with barbie dolls.
Now please,
I'm telling you for the last time
Put on that dress I gave you.
Be the cute little girl I want you to be.
One day you'll be a beautiful woman
Just like me."
"Don't cut your hair shorter,
you'll look like a boy.
Don't wear that shirt,
What are you, a dyke?
Why can't you be like the other girls?
Just be the perfect daughter I want you to be."
So what if I'm a boy,
So what if I'm a girl?
So what if I'm both,
So what if I'm neither?
It shouldn't matter to you.
It shouldn't matter to them.
It shouldn't matter to anyone but me.
So, I'll be who I want,
No matter what others may think.
And if you really love me,
then you shouldn't care what they say about me.
Gender doesn't define me.
