Summary
On a spring midnight in 1982, Steve Harrington, the newly crowned king of Hawkins High, was home alone. Still underage, he was drunk for the first time in his life. Half-lying on the sofa, he had completely forgotten about the party held earlier that night in this lonely house and fell into a groggy, drunken stupor.
A chill woke him. Steve shivered, the hardness of the floor slowly bringing him back to consciousness — when had he ended up on the floor? He fumbled for the blanket that should have been covering him but found nothing. Then, rubbing his bleary eyes, he slowly looked around.
Steve suddenly realized he was not alone.
He looked up. In the pitch darkness, a grimy little boy was curled up opposite him, as if leaning against the corner of the wall. The child was trembling uncontrollably, his hair disheveled and his face deathly pale. Then, the boy suddenly opened his mouth:
HELP!
Steve jolted awake.
