Chapter 1: New Friend

Chapter Text

Skip sat alone at lunch, Jeremy was sick and they didn't want to bother trying to talk to Michael as he hated them for an unknown reason.

They sat in the corner, alone, and spaced out, thinking about technology instead of interacting with the students of Middleborough Highschool.

“Hey, um, Skip, right?” They looked up at the voice talking to them. It was another junior, Oliver, they recognized him from some of their classes, but how did he know their name?

“How do you know my name?” They asked him.

“Oh, I heard Jeremy call you that, sorry if that's creepy…” he said.

“Nevermind, I don't really care,” they said.

“Oh, um okay.” He stood there for a few moments before speaking again, “can I sit here?”

They gave a dismissive wave and Oliver sat across from them. They had to repress the urge to move away from him, he seemed nice, plus, they really needed more friends or else their parents would start to worry about them.

“So, um, why'd you come here?” He asked them.

“Wouldn't you like to know weather boy,” they responded dryly. They hated new people, they hated this place. It felt unsafe.

“Oh, um…” he paused, “how about you tell me about yourself then?”

“I like books,” they said, not elaborating.

“Oh, um, me too–”

“A lot more than people.” Oliver tried to give them a smile. “You're pissing me off,” they said, crossing their arms tightly.

“Oh, um, I'm sorry, I'll go if you want me to,” he said, standing up to leave. Skip panicked, they'd been too harsh to Oliver.

They half dove across the table and grabbed his wrist tightly. “Who said you could leave?” They gave him a pointed look.

“I thought you wanted me too–” he didn't get to finish talking as Skip violently pulled him back, knocking the wind out of him.

They sat back and stared at him, silently begging him not to leave.

“Okay I'll stay,” he said, turning back to face them.

They nodded, “Good.” Oliver looked a bit uncomfortable under their gaze but they didn't bother looking away.

They didn't say anything the rest of lunch, instead trying to guess stuff about Oliver. Once the bell rang they quickly left, not bothering to say goodbye.

They thought they did a pretty good job at making a new friend.
