(Un)shockingly Bad

The Monastery training room smelled faintly of burnt metal and… disappointment.

Jay bounced on the balls of his feet, grinning like a kid about to show off the world’s greatest invention. “Guys! You’re gonna love this!”

Kai crossed his arms. “Jay, the last time you said that, half the Monastery was covered in noodles.”

“I call that a learning experience,” Jay said, giving a dramatic wink. “This time it’s perfectly safe.

Zane tilted his head. “Your device enhances lightning output. Statistically, ‘perfectly safe’ is a relative term.”

Lloyd groaned. “Jay, can you not?”

Jay ignored them and powered up his small gadget. Sparks danced around the tip. “See? Totally harmless.”

The others exchanged nervous glances.

“Alright, target dummy number three,” Jay said, pointing. “Precision strike!”

He aimed. A flash of lightning shot from the device… and hit Cole’s brand-new training gear.

“What—?!” Cole shouted as his gear flew across the room like a rocket. He dove out of the way just in time. “Jay! I knew this would happen!”

Kai lunged to grab the device. “Step away from it, Jay!”

Jay flailed, trying to turn it off. Another spark shot out, catching Kai’s arm. His hair singed, and he yelped. “Seriously, Jay?!”

Zane, ever calm, stepped aside and carefully observed the flying gadgets. “I calculate a 97.6% chance that total destruction will occur in under two minutes.”

“Already happening,” Lloyd muttered, ducking a rogue training mat that Jay’s lightning had sent spinning.

Jay’s panic only made it worse. Every attempt to shut off the device sent sparks flying toward the ceiling, hitting random gadgets and even the fan. The room was a whirlwind of electricity, smoke, and screaming.

Nya came in, and, threw up her hands. “I leave for ten minutes and you guys destroy everything!”

Kai, his singed hair sticking out in all directions, glared at Jay. “You’re banned from electricity for a week!”

Jay blinked, sheepishly holding up the smoking gadget. “Uh… maybe I didn’t read the manual?”

Zane calmly scribbled in his notebook. “Incident logged: Jay’s lightning device demonstrates unpredictable outputs. Suggest removal from active duty.”

Lloyd rubbed his temples. “We’re never letting Jay near tech again.”

A quiet, tense moment passed… then a tiny ping came from the corner. One of the gadgets Jay had zapped sparked to life.

Jay’s eyes lit up. “See! It works! Sort of!”

Cole groaned. “Sort of is not a word I ever want to hear in this room again.”

Kai muttered, “It’s alive now. I hate it.”

Zane tilted his head. “Probability of secondary chaos: 89.3%. Likely.”

Jay just grinned. “Come on, guys! It’s a learning experience… part two!”

And somewhere in the Monastery, a faint zap echoed as the chaos continued.
