Due to their biology, they can adapt.
When they feel their partner's teeth sink into their neck, it all turns on its head. A myriad of changes - both mental and physical - take place as the fight is drained from them. It feels like a fever dream. They can't comprehend why they suddenly feel so empty, so clingy, why they crave something they don't have the words for. They know it's a consequence of their partner claiming them, but these sensations still don't make sense.
