Work Text:
Alex was going back to school and they didn’t know how to feel about it.
On one hand, they were excited, they would get to meet new people, make new friends.
On the other hand, what if people made fun of them? They were different from other people, they knew that, but how would other people react?
Percy seemed to sense their concerns and smiled at them. “Alex, you’ll be alright,” he said, voice gentle.
Alex nodded, unsure of how to properly respond to him.
“What’s wrong?” Percy asked.
Alex sighed, “what if… what if people don’t want to be friends with me? What if they see me as different?”
Percy stopped what he was doing and sat beside Alex, “don’t care what people think of you. When I was in school, I was always the weird kid, the kid that couldn’t sit still for long. The kid that couldn’t read, but I didn’t let it stop me.”
Alex looked at Percy, they had noticed the small things, like how Percy always got Jay to ready something, always seemed to be moving, but never thought about it before.
“Did you also have trouble with your abilities?” Alex asked, Percy nodded, “I did. But I didn’t have anyone to guide me through my powers, unlike you,” he bugged Alex a bit. Alex nodded, a soft smile creeping up on their face.
“Thank you, Percy.”
Percy wrapped his arm around his child, “of course.”
