Chapter Text
Humans are selfish, they only engage in things that would benefit them, even if that means hurting others. They don't care about anyone else but themselves. They'll sacrifice their own coworkers just for extra money. They'll manipulate others just for their own gain. They'll participate in less than stellar behaviour just for their own twisted form of 'love'. Humans can only be described as one thing, monsters.
Though, not all humans are like this.
Iruma Suzuki, 14 years old. A human living amongst these beasts, the only human around him that is caring and compassionate human, truly a gem. He was a timid boy, and also scared.
He was lost.
"How did I end up here…?" Mumbled the boy, as he found himself surrounded by towering trees in a sea of thick fog. He looked every which way, but it all looked the same. Which way was north? He couldn't tell.
How did he end up here? Simple actually, his parents are to blame.
That's right, Iruma Suzuki, an only child whose parents are complete scumbags. They're nothing but senseless and selfish creatures. Letting their son. Their child work until collapse, only for them to live their selfish dreams while he was left in the dust. At the age of one, he's been subjected to an arduous amounts of labour just so they can live how they want. He spent 13 grueling years fighting for his life, for his parents lives scrounging around for mere pennies. Unable to say no, Iruma dealt with whatever his parents wanted of him.
"HOW THE HELL DID I END UP HERE?!" He screamed, his voiced echoed around him, falling upon deaf ears. He was frustrated with himself, he got so caught up in his money endeavours that he ended up getting turned around. Lost in a forest. He never even knew this forest existed until now. How could he be so careless?
Wait, why was he blaming himself, this was his parents fault. Those scumbags. When he gets back to them he's going to lecture them!
He looked around, trying to figure out if there was anyway out. But it was useless, "Maybe if I try and retrace my steps?" Placing a finger to his chin, he though to himself. "Let's see… So I was in town, going to sell some old ham I found in the fridge, got confused and ended in an alleyway. Some thugs confused me for someone else, sold them the ham in exchange for a briefcase of money, realised their mistake, chased me and I ran then… I fell I think?" The more he thought about this the more it confused him further.
He couldn't even tell what time it was, the sky was simple monochrome grey. His stomach grumbled, how long had he been out for?
"I should find my way out…" Taking another anxious look around him before picking a random direction. It became abundantly clear as he walked that he wasn't getting anywhere. The fog got thicker and trees became a hassle to get around. Why did he have to get lost? "Man, I'm gonna be late to my job… Then I could lose out on my paycheck." Grumbled the boy, his ahoge sagging slightly as he pushed by the trees. "Ugh… Why does this forest have to be so BAH-!"
He yelped as his foot got caught on something, bringing him to the floor with a loud thud, he lifted his head from the ground, eyes squinting. "What the…" He peered behind him to see what he tripped over, "HELL??" Cried Iruma, his ahoge stiffening up as he came upon the body of an old man. He scurried backwards, eyes wide, "A dead body…" He whimpered. It laid still, it didn't look too decayed so maybe it was a fresh kill. Was it murder? Or self inflicted? From the lack of blood he couldn't quite tell. But, either way he had to do something.
After all, wasn't it a crime to not report a dead body? And a crime would mean jail time, and jail time meant no job, and no job meant no pay check! Come on Iruma, do something!
His body, still in shock of seeing a real life human body, failed to notice the body twitching. "So… Hungry…" It croaked out as Iruma came to his senses, "Hungry…?"
He watched as the body slowly moved, shaky and unsteady movements. It crawled towards him, and Iruma, back to a tree could only watched and stare as it slowly made his way to him. "Oh, you're… hungry? Uhm, w-well I don't have food but I-" He stopped, as the man creeping towards him. Something didn't seem right.
The pale white skin, pointed ears, sharp canine sharper than any humans. The long bony fingers that reached out to him. There was no doubt about it, that man he thought was dead, was a vampire. A blood sucking vampire!
Just his luck.
And it was hungry… For his blood. What was he to do. His eyes frantically looked around for any means to escape, but the only thing that could he useful to him was a piece of broken tree bark. Hold on a minute, that might be the thing that could save his life! With hesitation, he grabbed the bark, raising it before slicing.
He winced as fresh blood squeezed from the slash across his hand. "Here!" Looking away, put his wounded hand in front of the vampire, "You're hungry, right? So here, drink this." From his peripheral vision watched as the man eyed his wound, bringing a cloth from his pocket, soaking the cloth in his blood as he sucked the cloth dry.
In an instant, his strength came back as he lifted himself from the ground. Glad to see him up and on his feet let his guard down slightly.
"Thank you." The old man finally spoke gratefully, "Y-you're welcome! So uh… Do you know where…" But before he could finish his sentence found himself soaring through the sky, under the arms of the old man. "Huh…"
What was he doing? Was he being kidnapped? He was being kidnapped wasn't he. He knew it was a bad idea to give him his blood, and now he was going to die! Thisisbadthisisbadthisisbadthisisbadthisisbadthisisbadthisisbadthisisbadthisisbadthisisbad.
🦇
Soon he found himself surrounded by tall walls, double the size he's ever seen, tinted black windows, preventing at type of light from filtering into the room. The room itself was quite dark, dark enough where he could only see the faint outlines of vampires. The aforementioned old man, and the red-haired vampire who seemed way to formal for this sort of situation.
Iruma was seated in the middle of the room, the only source of light they had where the candles that hung on the walls.
"What is your name, boy?" The elder spoke, his voice gruff and intimidating, taking a step towards him, the glasses he wore obscured his eyes, though Iruma could tell he was staring straight through his soul. "I- Iruma Suzuki, sir." Stammered the young boy, terrified as he shrunk under his gaze.
"Well, Iruma I'm sure you know why I brought you here, correct?" He spoke ominously, slowly approaching the boy. Iruma shook his head even though deep down he had a sneaking suspicion. He closed his eyes tightly, fearing the inevitable.
"Will you be my grandson?"
Huh?
Iruma stared at the man, wide eyed, eyes flickering between the old man as the other vampire who looked just as baffled as him. "But, Sullivan sir, this is a human boy. You're aware of what would happen when the others find out?" They finally spoke, trying to reason to what he assumed to be their superior. "Oh relax Opera, they won't find out. We do still have that perfume, right?" So, Opera was there name.
"Uh… Yes we do, but you said those are only to be used in emergencies." They reminded, "Well, this is an emergency, isn't it?" Sullivan pointed to the human boy, still sat in his seat. He wasn't wrong, a human on vampire land an emergency situation. "I guess it is…" The murmured, "Well, chop chop Opera, fetch the perfume!" Sullivan ordered as Opera straightened their back, "On it sir!" And with that, they vanished out of the room, probably to get the 'perfume' Sullivan wanted.
"Now, Iruma, I'm still awaiting your answer!" Sullivan turned his way back to Iruma, appearing as happy as a new parent. "Grand… son?" He repeated, he can't tell if this is some weird dream or not. Was he really going to be adopted by a vampire? Did he even have a choice?
"PLEASE!!" Pleaded the man as he groveled at his feet, bursting into tears, "I get so jealous listening to my friends talking about they're grandsons and I feel so left out. So, I'm begging you, I'll buy whatever you like, I'll spoil you rotten, you wouldn't mind right?!" Begged the old man.
"W-wouldn't… mind?" He paused, looking at the man with sympathy. "Do I even get a choice?" Voiced the young boy, "Well, I won't force you to be my grandson if you don't want to. The decision is yours to make." The vampire informed him. So he had a choice not to. A choice to say no.
No.
'How do I tell someone 'no' again?' Thought Iruma. That's right, Iruma Suzuki is a total pushover. He's only ever done whatever others told him to, without wondering if they had ulterior motives. He's never said 'no' to anyone before in his life, so can he really do it. Can he push his normal tendencies and finally the dreaded double letter word.
Should he refuse? If he does what will happen. Hopefully he gets to go home? Home. That weirdly enough sounds almost like paradise. Maybe, since he's given a choice he can decline this one request, after all any normal human would refuse right? This is way to outlandish to accept after all.
"Well, in that case I-"
"However, I implore to truly think about it. Think about it this way, you'll be helping a feeble and lonely old man if you do become my grandson. So, if you pity me, pleasepleaseplease be my grandson! If you have even the smallest shred empathy look deep into your heart and accept my proposal!"
'I have to turn this down, this is insane!' Thought the boy logically, unable to hear himself think over then mans pleas.
"Help this old man achieve his dream So, please grant me this one wish! Please my sweet boy, Iruma!" Iruma's top 3 biggest weaknesses;
Please.
Help me.
I'm counting on you.
He can't say no. He collapsed to the floor in exhaustion, and defeat. Iruma Suzuki is a total pushover.
'I'm pathetic.' Cursed Iruma internally. This was the one time to get out of this place and he totally blew it. All because he couldn't shake his yes-man habit. And now, here he was, having signed a contract that made him Sullivan's legal grandson. What has his life become?
"Well, now that that's been settled," The elder snapped his fingers, the lights flickering on as he found himself in a Victorian style bedroom. "It's getting late, so I'll assume your tired." Tired was an understatement. "So, I'll leave you be for now, after all you'll have to wake up early in the morning if you want to make it on time to school!" School? He looked up to him, a little confused, "Well, you're only 14, right? So, you have to go to school!" That's right.
Iruma Suzuki never really had time to go to school, only appearing once in a blue moon due to his busy life working multiple odd jobs in order to survive. But now his next question was, what was vampire school like? Did it differ from his own, human school?
"But, what if they find out I'm-"
"Human?" Sullivan finished, "Well, let's just hope they don't!" Hope? That's what he has to rely on, hope? When his entire life was practically hopeless? He was dead, actual dead meat. If the vampire life was just like his life, it's only a matter of time before they find out.
He's giving himself a max of a week before they find out.
"Well, anyways, I'll be leaving you now. Please make sure you get plenty of rest! Sleep well my dearest grandson~" And with that he was alone. He blinked.
What has his life turned to?
Iruma looked around, finding neatly folded pajamas that sat on the edge of the bed. So, not knowing what else to do, undressed himself.
Laying back on the bed, the quilt pulled up to his chest. "What a weird dream…" He muttered, eye flicking shut as the world around him, vanishing into slumber.
🦇
His eyes fluttered open, looking around.
"Huh." A Victorian styled room. "IT WAS REAL??" He screeched horrified. It was real, it was really real. He was the grandson of a vampire.
"Good morning my dearest Iruma~!" Sullivan called out to him as he opened the door, Opera followed behind him. The sudden intrusion startling him as he fell to the ground. "Sleep well?" He asked as Iruma tried to collect his thoughts, "Uh.. I mean… I guess," Mumbled the boy as Sullivan helped him up, "That's great to hear!" Hugged Sullivan as Opera tapped his shoulder. "Oh right! Thanks for the reminder, Opera. There's breakfast waiting for us downstairs, so if you'll come with us." Sullivan invited. Iruma, fearing he had to other choice, followed him.
And to his surprise Sullivan was right. Sitting on the table were plates upon plates of freshly cooked goods. He drooled at the mere sight of them, "Is this…" He started, "All for you? Mhm, eat as much as you want!" Told Sullivan as Iruma sat down, eyeing the food like a starving predator, he didn't even know where to start. "You humans do prefer to have your meals cooked, correct?" Sullivan piped from across the table as Iruma spotted his grandpa's breakfast. His plates filled with raw, freshly killed animals with the side of organs. He was as grossed out as he thought he'd be, but it still wasn't a pretty sight.
Iruma nodded, salivating at the mouth, "Well, go on and eat?" Urged the elder vampire as Iruma obliged, shoveling the food into his mouth like he hasn't eaten (which was partially true). And within seconds, his own side of food was gone, not a single crumb was left. Scary but impressive. He sighed, satisfied, "Full?" Sullivan wiped his mouth clean with a napkin as he stood up. Iruma nodded, a burp slipping through his teeth as he nodded once more, "Fantastic, well it's time for school! You don't want to be late, right?" Oh right, school. He almost completely forgot about that.
"Opera." Sullivan clapped as Opera disappeared before returning with a navy blue uniform. "The changing rooms are over there." Opera pointed as they handed the uniform over to the boy, "Thank you." Thanked the human as he walked off to get changed.
Patting himself down, took note of his uniform. It didn't look all too different to his old uniform, though this one was a dark navy blue — almost black, with a long cloak wrapped around it. It was honestly quite comfortable to wear. Exiting the changing room, noticed Opera holding a camera as Sullivan stood next to them proudly. "You look so cute~!" Cooed Sullivan as he looked to Opera, "Doesn't he, Opera?" The cat-eyed vampire nodded, "Yes, he does but we must get going before the gates close." Opera told him.
"That's right, great call Opera! What would I do without you?" He patted his vampire servant(?) as he held his hand to Iruma, "Well, what are we waiting for?" He had no other choice, so with shaking hands he took Sullivan's.
🦇
Iruma rode on the horse-drawn carriage. It was rather fancy, with the velvet seats beneath him actually felt really comfortable. He looked out the window, taking note of the other vampires above, their bat-like wings carrying them. So vampires can fly?
"Humans, they are feared for after all they kill without mercy. Suck them dry, blood and plasma, flesh and marrow, their whole broad. May the sound of our mighty wings as we fly. Bring you fear, bow to us, we are vampires, in the night we appear. As we sing this song from our crimson-soaked lips. Now you know, scream for us, we are vampire and to death you all will go!"
He froze. What was that? Was that there national anthem?! Scary. He ducked, just wishing for his fate to hurry up, he knows how it's going end anyway.
"Master Iruma." Opera spoke up from the opposite side of the carriage. "I know you must be horrified, but if you're ever in danger, just come to me and I can return you back to the humans." Back to the humans. Oh, right he was so used to just doing what other people wanted he completely forgot he could always just do what he wanted instead. Back home, but if he went back home he knows what will await him there. Work, a shit ton of physical labour, a life where he has to fight for his next paycheck. A life where he has to scrounge around for any crumb of food. At least here he has a roof over his head, food whenever he's hungry and someone who actually loves him and will treat him right.
So, will he leave that all behind just to go back to his crummy parents that probably haven't even noticed he had vanished? He didn't know, he just felt so conflicted.
On one hand he was horrified about them finding out his secrets, so leaving seems like a good idea. But, his old parents never cared for him and unlike Sullivan they only ever cared about the money they'd get from him, plus he didn't want to disappoint Sullivan.
So, what should he do? Leave or Stay.
"I-" He started as the carriage came to a stop, "My dearest grandson~ We've arrived!" Sullivan called out to him, "I'll think about it!" Iruma got up as the carriage door flew open, a red carpet rolling ahead of them as the other vampire students looked at the spectacle. So much for them not noticing him. Maybe he should take up Opera's offer after all.
Stepping past the gate he was in awe. This school was massive. If he hadn't known any better he could have sworn it was a castle. And it looked rather old with the walls appearing to have some wear and tear, though it looked stable at least. Even the walls that surrounded the grand palace seemed to be half the height of the actual building.
"Hey you!" A voice shouted in his direction. On instinct he flinched, shakily looking over his shoulder, "Ah- Yes??" He shrieked in response, it was a two tone haired vampire, he wore a different uniform to him, was he part of faculty? Well, whatever he was he looked menacing. Had he figured him out already. Was it that obvious he wasn't a vampire? "Entrance ceremony is that way." He pointed, "Ah! Right away, thank you!" He hastily bowed before zooming off.
'That was lucky, I thought I for sure was caught already,' He thought, keeping his eyes shut as he blindly ran in the direction of the entrance ceremony. If he can't see them, maybe they can't see him, right? All he has to do is not caught, 'Justdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJustdon'tgetcaughtJu-' Before he knew it, he ran into someone, knocking both himself and the other down.
Slowly getting up he looked below him to spot another young man like himself, light pink hair and in a white uniform instead of the nazy blue one he wore. "Oh my- I'm so sorry, I didn't-"
"My uniform…" They mumbled, as Iruma peeked passed them to see what they were talking about only too see the pristine white of his uniform caked in fresh mud. His heart sank, did he do that? "I'm so sorry! I-" The boy whipped around to get a look at who dare ruin his uniform. He looked furious, and rightly so. He pointed an accusatory finger, baring his fangs "You! Who are you?!" He demanded as Iruma scrambled backwards, "I- I… ru…ma…" He squeaked out, "Well, Iruma." Spat out the boy as he took a step towards him, "Do you have any idea who I am?" Snarled the boy as Iruma shook his head, "I am Alice Asmodeus, and you ruined my uniform. For that you'll pay with your life." His life? It seemed a bit excessive, no? But, by the look of pure disdain in Asmodeus' eyes, he wasn't kidding. The enraged boy raised his hand, as if he were going to rip out his veins with his bare hands.
Iruma looked around hopelessly, but no one really seemed to care, or if they did just stared as if they knew not to get involved, fearing for their own safety. A smart move in retrospect. He needed to do something, anything if he wanted to live. But, what was he, a human supposed to do against a vampire? As he looked around, hoping for anyway of getting this boy to back down. His eyes, in one last desperate attempt to look for any hope or safety, looked passed the gate and towards the dense forest that surrounded them. Something appeared off, as he spotted something just beneath the brush that glinted even without the sun. His survival instincts kicked in as he tackled the boy to the ground, "Get down!" He warned as something whizzed past them, the faint smell of garlic flew with it.
"What are you-" The Asmodeus boy went to ask but Iruma cut him off, "Are you okay?!" Alice blinked, okay definitely wasn't the word for him right now. "What are you on abou-" He eyes seemed to follow that painfully retched smell, needing to find out what smelled so rancid that it physically burned to even smell. "An arrow." Just a few feet away from them sat an arrow, the tip coated in something. The commotion finally caught the of the others around him, they all stayed silent. Still, as if they all knew something Iruma didn't. "Hunters! Quick, get inside and stay away from the windows!" A teacher ordered as panic finally sat in.
"Hunters?" Iruma looked all around him in all the pandemonium that surrounded him, "Vampire hunters! And get off of me!" Asmodeus threw Iruma off of him, as he tried to stand up, but Iruma, instincts now on high alert just threw him to the ground once more, another arrow shooting past them, "What are you doing?!" Asmodeus demanded to know, "S-sorry but you almost got shot!" Iruma defended, "I will be if you don't stop tackling me!"
And so they continued, with Asmodeus continuously getting more and more frustrated with Iruma constantly tackling him as arrows whizzed past them. With each shout and demand to let him go came a retort of apologies. Eventually the two came closer to the entrance of the school, "Stop fooling around and get in already!" A teacher demanded them. Iruma inched them towards the door, attempted to pull him and Asmodeus inside, but in doing so tripped over his own to feet. Falling backwards, Asmodeus still in his grip into a perfect German suplex. Utterly exhausted Iruma finally let go of him. Today couldn't have gone worse.
Finally, the door shut behind them, as a teacher with a seemingly permanent scowl ordered, "Blueshenko! Get the prep the nursing station!" Blueshenko, an older gentle man with a long nose, broad shoulders and two scars on his cheeks replied with a quite, "Got it!" Before running down the hall. "You, boy!" He pointed a long nail at him, "Bring Asmodeus to the nursing station, quick!" Ordered the intimidating vampire. Quickly hopping up, he took Asmodeus in his arms, not wanting any further trouble as he followed the vampire that was 'Blueshenko'.
🦇
Iruma fell backwards onto his bed in pure exhaustion. He was still shaking, and his heart was still racing. He jolted as his door opened, standing there was Opera. "Master Iruma," They greeted, "I heard what happened at school," They took a step forward, "How are you holding up?" Iruma just let out a weak whimper, still trying to collect his thoughts. Opera, still keeping their composer nodded, understanding that it might have been quite the traumatic first day of school. "Well, I just came to inform you that someone is wanting you at the door." They informed. Iruma sat up, a little confused, but before they could give any further information, they mysterious vampire entered his room.
"I told you to wait outside." Opera told, a hint of irritation in their voice, "I'm well aware of what you said, but I have to see him. So, my apologies for the intrusion." There stood Asmodeus, a new fire in his eyes. Iruma scrambled backwards, horrified that Asmodeus found where he lived. He was dead, wasn't he? But, to his surprise Asmodeus just bowed down towards him, hand to his chest. "Iruma, at school today you single handedly saved my life, you even carried me to the infirmary. I owe so much to you. You truly are such a gracious and merciful vampire, so that is why I, Alice Asmodeus — as is vampire custom if one were to save your life — I offer my all to you and will do everything within my power to aid you in your conquest of the school, Master Iruma. Let us quickly begin by subjugating and holding dominion over the entire freshmen class!" Asmodeus declared ever so happily, despite his uniform still being dirty he seemed to have forgiven him rather easily.
"EH?!" Was all Iruma could mutter. While it felt like the weirdest dream someone could have, the fresh mental scars proved this was reality, so one more question entered through his mind.
How the hell did his life turn out like this?!
