Work Text:

Gunmax had never exactly gotten human traditions, especially when it came to the more...romantic side of things. He's definitely seen his ex-partner try to romance a woman or two, whispering "sweet nothings" to them in the bar or club, though from what he's seen it never got the man anywhere, in fact Gunmax was sure he's seen a drink or two go flying at the man's face.

He never quite got the obsession with dating or getting emotionally close with someone. Why would anyone put that much effort into something so...odd? He's seen humans pressing close together, hugging each other in alleyways, but he's never understood why.

Gunmax couldn't help but think about these things again while listening in on a conversation the Build Team were having. It got quite boring sitting in the office with nothing to do, so sometimes the most randomest of conversations will happen, just like right now.

"Eh? What do you mean you've kissed someone before?!" Drillboy exclaimed, slamming his hands on the table as he stared at McCrane, who was awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

"Oh..well, it happened a while ago when Seia got possessed by Inti. See, she began to float up into the air and-"

"What's a kiss?" Gunmax interrupted McCrane's flustered retelling, kicking his feet up onto the table as the rest of the Build Team turned their attention to him. He was just glad Deckerd and that ninja robot were out solving a case with Yuuta, else he'd feel even more awkward.

"Wait...you don't know what a kiss is? What, were you made yesterday?" Power Joe snorted, grunting when he got elbowed in the side by Dumpson.

Gunmax frowned, folding his arms behind his head. "What's the big deal? Is it a human thing?" He sighed, sounding bored, though inside he felt slightly curious.

"A kiss is like...something humans do to show affection to a person they really love. At least, that's how Seia explained it to me afterwards. She suggested watching romantic movies to understand better." McCrane hummed, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Actually, I'm sure boss's sisters have a collection you can borrow, if you're interested."

Gunmax yawned, leaning further back in his seat. "Nah, I'm good. Though maybe you should try giving some to your baby brother, he seems like he needs it."

It took a moment, but the realization finally hit, and Gunmax smirked as he heard the furious yelling and protests from Drillboy and the boisterous laughter from the other two, while McCrane tried to get them all to settle down.

Still, the seed has been planted, and Gunmax will admit that curiosity has always been his weakness.

"So...you want to learn about kissing...from movies?" Azuki hummed, staring up at the giant robot before her.

"You could say I'm curious, it's all anyone was talking about back at the base." Gunmax laughed, leaning against a nearby pole, his arms crossed over his chest. He had specifically chosen to head to Yuuta's house when the boss was at work and most of them would be doing patrol duty. Some (ahem, Deckerd) might call that irresponsible, but Gunmax liked to think of it as a small trip of knowledge. Besides, if he did get caught, he could just say that the Build Team suggested it.

"I think I have some you would like! Oh...how are you going to be able to watch them?"

"Just turn the TV towards the window, I'll be able to see it just fine."

Azuki nodded before darting back into the house, and Gunmax could see the young lady searching through the different DVDs before slipping a specific one in, and while it was inside the house, Gunmax could still hear the soft music slowly playing from within.

Gunmax hummed, settling down onto the yard's grass as Azuki sat down on the couch inside.

Despite watching the movie, he still didn't quite get what all of it was about. Why were they dragging the movie on for so long when it was obvious the man and the woman were going to be together? And who was this third guy that kept getting in the way of their relationship?

Finally, after an entire hour of the two main characters hopping around each other, they kissed.

Gunmax hummed, tilting his head as he watched their lips connect, their hands practically gripping each other's heads as they pressed against a wall. "Huh...slamming each other against a wall is romantic? I'd thought that’d be called assault." Gunmax muttered, before his eyes widened as the two main characters began to...well, undress one another and their kiss became more...tongue-like.

By the time the movie ended and Azuki finally turned back to see what Gunmax thought, she was surprised to see the giant robot gone, having never made a noise.

Despite having been told what a kiss is and having seen a movie about it, Gunmax still didn’t understand the obsession with it. He's been driving around the outskirts of the city on his motorcycle, trying to comprehend the information he was given. Maybe he'll just never understand, though he didn't know why the thought was bothering him so much.

He finally stopped in front of the stack of wooden beams he and Deckerd had sat down and talked, on that very night his ex-partner had tried to murder him. Good times, good times. The area almost seemed empty without the blue robot with him.

Gunmax sighed and leaned his motorcycle against one of the nearby stacks of pipes before sitting down, staring up into the starry night sky. He knew he should be heading back to headquarters, the others were probably wondering where he was, but he couldn't find it in himself to move. His tanks grumbled, signalling that he was hungry, and Gunmax realized he hadn't fueled since leaving the police station.

"Eh, I should be fine for a few hours..." Gunmax muttered to himself, folding his arms behind his head and tilting his head up, which allowed him to get a full view of the moon, the stars around it somehow seeming to dim in its presence. He knew it had been dark when he and Deckerd first came here, but he honestly can't remember much of their surroundings back then, having Deckerd sitting right beside him...

The moment was interrupted by a familiar police car skidding to a halt in front of him, before transforming into the robot himself, a stern frown on his face. Gunmax noted that no other members of the Brave Police showed up, at least none he could see, and neither was Yuuta there either.

"Gunmax! Where did you go? McCrane said you just disappeared from the police station, and when we checked Yuuta's house, Azuki said you just vanished as well!" The blue robot crossed his arms, seeming to be waiting for an explanation.

Behind his glasses, Gunmax raised a brow, before giving Deckerd a smirk. "I was going around, doing my own research. Besides, nothing big was happening in the city, so it should be alright, yeah?"

"It was highly irresponsible to just disappear like that! Yuuta was worried sick, and the rest of the Brave Police spent the entire day searching for you! It's a miracle a major criminal didn't decide to attack today with you being absent." Now that Gunmax looked closely, he will admit Deckerd looked pretty. No, he looked beautiful when he was annoyed, with his eyes flashing a brighter orange as he lectured, how his face was pinched with stern disapproval...wait, what was Gunmax thinking again?

"Gunmax!" Deckerd growled, reaching out as if to touch him, and like before, Gunmax manages to grab the blue robot's wrist before he could grab him.

"Always handsy with me, aren't you?" Gunmax teased lowly, and was pleased to see Deckerd's face almost...blush in a way. He knew they were robots, shouldn't be able to replicate such human expressions, but somehow they did, and he will admit, he didn't mind it right now. "If you're really curious, fine. I was researching kissing. McMcrane was talking about how he experienced a kiss before, and I will admit I'm curious."

Deckerd seemed to blush even more, though his eyes narrowed slightly. "You mean to tell me the reason you left without telling anyone your whereabouts is because you were curious about...kissing?" He exclaimed.

Gunmax shrugged. "I said I was doing my own research, right? Though I don't really understand why humans seem obsessed with it. Seems nothing special to me."

Deckerd frowned and seemed to think something over, eyes flicking from Gunmax's glasses down to his lips, then back up again. Gunmax was going to joke about the blue robot having memory loss all of a sudden when Deckerd finally glanced away, keeping his gaze firmly on the wooden beams.

"If you want...you could experiment on me, and maybe that'll sate your curiosity?" He mumbled, so quiet Gunmax had to strain to hear him.

Gunmax blinked.

Then blinked again.

Then he snorted, releasing Deckerd's wrist to press his hand against his mouth. "You're serious?"

Deckerd seemed to blush even more (Gunmax didn't even know how that was possible) before letting out a low growl and turning away. "If you're just going to laugh at me-" He began, but stopped short when Gunmax reached out and grabbed his arm, shoulders still bouncing slightly with laughter.

"Wait, wait! I never said no, baby. Sure, I'll try kissing you." Gunmax snickered, though his voice was lower now, more controlled.

Deckerd's eyes widened at the pet name, one Gunmax has used before, but didn't bring attention to it, instead leaning forward, his eyes closed, waiting for Gunmax to make the move first.

Slowly, Gunmax leaned forward, grabbing Deckerd's head with his hands, and then...their lips touched.

There was no wall for Gunmax to slam Deckerd against, so he moved one hand down to the blue robot's waist, using it to pull him closer instead. He heard a noise of surprise come from Deckerd, but he didn't protest, instead opening his mouth, his tongue brushing against Gunmax's lips and...oh.

Gunmax felt a shiver run through his body as he swiftly parted his own lips, meeting Deckerd's tongue with his own. Both their movements were clumsy, inexperienced, but Deckerd seemed to figure out somewhat what they were supposed to be doing, since the blue robot took the lead, tilting Gunmax's face upward to deepen the kiss, using one hand to wrap around his waist while the other grabbed his hip, pulling him even closer, their metal pressed flush against each other.

Gunmax couldn't stop the soft noise from escaping his lips, though Deckerd didn't seem to mind, in fact he seemed almost encouraged by the noise, his tongue moving more firmly against Gunmax's own.

It felt...warm, that was something Gunmax was sure of. Warm and tingly and...right, somehow, as if this was something that should always happen. He wanted to press closer, to try and merge their bodies in a way that wasn't meant for battle, to touch Deckerd all over and never let him go. Gunmax will admit, he's always been somewhat drawn to the blue robot, most of the time he'd just brush it off, thinking it was something in his coding due to them being able to merge together. But now...he wasn't so sure.

Deckerd's lips were moving away from his before Gunmax could fully process it, and he barely stopped himself from chasing after them. Both were panting heavily despite not having the need for air, staring at each other silently.

Then, Deckerd gave him a warm but shy smile, orange eyes seeming brighter than usual. "So...how was it?" He murmured.

Gunmax blinked, feeling like he had to reset his entire mind before answering. "It was...decent, I guess. Still don't see why humans like it so much." He dismissed, though felt slight regret as Deckerd slumped, his eyes dimming.

"Oh...right, well, I need to head back to Yuuta's house, and you should head back to headquarters and get some fuel." Deckerd ducked his head and turned away. He managed to walk a few steps away and was about to transform into a police car when Gunmax called out to him, making him look over his shoulder.

"Hey, if you ever want to...uh, kiss again. I'll be here." Gunmax muttered, seeming to be staring at the ground near Deckerd.

Deckerd blinked, then gave Gunmax a soft smile. "I'd love to, maybe even tomorrow if we're not busy." With that, the blue robot transformed before speeding off, leaving Gunmax alone with his thoughts.

He could still feel the ghostly sensation of Deckerd's lips on his, feel tingles where he had grabbed Gunmax's hip. He couldn't help but long for that feeling again, and maybe next time Deckerd could slam him against the wall while they kiss. The humans from the movie seemed to enjoy it, so maybe they would too.

A rustling sound came from his right, triggering Gunmax to pull out his pistol and point it in that direction, though to his annoyance it was just that ninja robot. What was his name...Shadowmaru?

Either way, he was the one standing there, arms crossed over his chest with a bored look on his face. "If you and Deckerd decide to do anything more...intimate than kissing, please do it somewhere where no one has to see it." Shadowmaru muttered.

Gunmax blinked, then remembered what exactly had happened in the romance movie, and felt his own face begin to blush. "Were you there watching us the entire time?!" He yelled, too flustered to try and snark back at the ninja robot.

Shadowmaru just shrugged, walking past him towards the road. "Deckerd wanted us to find you, and seeing as this was the place you two were last time, there was a highly possible chance you'd be here again. Now come on, I don't want to drag you home." The ninja robot transformed into his dog form and continued on, not bothering to wait for Gunmax.

"First of all, you didn't answer my question. Second of all, did you seriously have to transform into your dog thing?"

"It's a wolf!"

The two bickered with each other the entire way back, and only when they reached the police station did Gunmax realize he accidentally left his motorcycle back there.

It was fine, he decided. He'll just go back and get it in the morning, and maybe Deckerd could accompany him in retrieving it.

Yes...purely for retrieving it.

Notes:

Yippie it's finally finished ;w;

I will admit, being Aro/Ace and writing this makes it kind of hard, because I've never experienced such a situation, and can relate about not understanding romance at time.

Is Gunmax slightly Aromantic in this fic? Maybe...

Either way, it's finally finished, and now another fic in my Brave Police: J-Decker Fics, hehehe >:3

If there's anything I missed or something I mistyped, please let me know and have a good day! <3
