Acceptance

Summary:

After everything that has happened to the Brave Police team, they're relieved to finally catch a break from the craziness. Regina has flown back to England, Duke is now a part of the Brave Police, and Deckerd is finally ready to move on from the traumatic experience of dying and losing his memories...

...that was, until Commissioner Saejima announced that the Chieftains, the same ones who killed Deckerd, will now be joining the Brave Police, saying they "turned a new leaf" for the better.

No one is happy about this, not even the Chieftains.

Chapter Text

Chieftain 1 could only hear his own thoughts at the moment.

They were angry, furious even, but there was no outlet to put that anger, no one to beat down until it went away. Where was he? Where was his partner? The last thing he remembered was stabbing that damn alien rock through its slimy eye, before everything went dark...

Yet he can still hear his thoughts.

Where am I? Where is my partner?

He wanted to scream, to shout, to plead with any god out there to just give him another chance, but it was like he was trapped in space, with no sound but the shallow echoes of his own thoughts.

Finally...a light. Light? He can see! Where was he? Chieftain 1 tried to move, but it was like his arms and legs were made of solid steel weighing him down. He wanted to move. He wanted to move.

"Seems he's finally awake. Took him longer than I thought he would, are you sure this is a good idea, Guv?" A...human male voice muttered, just at the feet of him. It sounded unfamiliar, nothing like the men who had created him and his partner.

"I don't see why we need to let these two go to waste, their Super A.I chips are in perfect condition, and the Brave Police could always do with new members." Another male voice answered, though this one was louder and boisterous compared to the previous one.

Wait...Brave Police?

Those...those robots who killed his partner. He wanted revenge, he wanted them all dead amongst his feet, he wanted-

"Hey hey hey, what's happening? His Super A.I is going haywire! I told you this wasn't a good idea, Commissioner-"

"Let me handle this. Chieftain 1, please open your eyes."

Chieftain 1 slowly onlined his eyes, realizing the light was brighter now, almost unbearable, and he glanced down, finally seeing the owners of said voices. One wore a grey suit and had raven black hair and a mustache, while the other man had similar but more tame hair, wearing a brown jacket with a green tie. They both stared up at him almost warily.

"Where am I? Where is my partner?" Chieftain 1 finally managed to grit out, feeling as if he hadn't used his vocalizer in ages.

The man in the grey suit crossed his arms, staring intently at the large robot. "You are at the police station, home of the Brave Police. We've decided, after heavy consideration, to reintroduce you into society here. Your partner is also here, however at the moment, he is asleep. We thought it would be better to just introduce one of you at a time to the team. Todo over here has managed to clear out most of the evil from your heart, and we hope nothing...dire will happen in the future." He explained, eyes narrowing sternly.

Chieftain 1's eyes widened slightly, glancing to the right of him. He appeared to be stuck to some...wall? It wasn't unlike the one he and Chieftain II were in when they were first made.

And there he was...the blue robot stood asleep next to him. His partner, Chieftain II. Chieftain 1 wanted nothing more than to reach out and touch him. It felt like forever since he last saw his partner, the previous time...he had stabbed him through the heart. With pure hatred and greed no longer burning within him, another strange emotion took their place, one he's never felt before. It felt...odd, like what he thought rain would smell like, but worse, because it squirmed around the edges of his Super A.I, never truly leaving him in peace.

"Don't try any funny business, you hear? Or it's off to the scrapyard for you both." The man in the brown jacket, 'Todo', muttered, and Chieftain 1 finally felt himself being freed from the wall, able to move his limbs however he pleased.

A small, dark voice within encouraged him to immediately crush the two men beneath his palm, because they deserved it, because he was superior, because he was the strongest robot on the entire planet-

Chieftain 1 groaned and shook his head, ridding himself of these thoughts. "And...must I join the Brave Police?"

"It's the safest place for you at the moment, plus, think of it as community service, seeing as you and your friends destroyed almost half the city." The man in the grey suit (Commissioner? Guv?) said, and the large red robot was sure the man was about to lecture him, but instead, he turned away, heading for the exit. "Come, we'll introduce you to the rest of the team. I'm sure they'll be happy to see you."

The Brave Police were, in fact, not happy to see Chieftain 1.

"What's that monster doing in here?" The yellow one snarled, leaping from his seat. Power Joe was his name, his Super A.I supplied.

The man in the grey suit, who Chieftain 1 discovered was called Commissioner Saejima, had led the large robot to a room called 'Decker Room'. Chieftain 1 didn't know what to expect on the other side, but it certainly hadn't been the entire Brave Police there, looking ready to shoot him at even the slightest movement.

"Commissioner, are you sure this is a good idea?" The black one, McCrane, murmured, grabbing Power Joe's arm and tugging him back down, the yellow robot reluctantly obeying and sitting back down. "I mean, he and his partner did try to kill all of us."

Chieftain 1 nearly winced at the reminder, but managed to keep his body stiff. It wasn't as if he wanted to kill the Brave Police, he had been manipulated by that green-haired human!...right? Even his own memories seemed to turn against him, whispering different reasons and scenarios.

Commissioner Saejima just shook his head, hands clasped behind his back. "It would be a shame to let his Super A.I go to waste, and the Brave Police always need new members."

"So just reprogram his A.I! We don't need him destroying more buildings and causing mayhem! Or better yet, just scrap him! Are you forgetting he killed Deckerd?" The red one, Dumpson, growled, seeming just as hot-headed as Power Joe. The smaller orange one, Drillboy, crossed his arms over his chest and nodded along furiously. "That's right! I'm never going to work with someone like him!" The young robot declared.

"While he is strong, that's just about all to him. Besides, it's not like he'd ever obey Mini-boss." The...cyan one, Gunmax, yawned, feet kicked up on the table.

"I doubt he would have anything but hatred in his heart, I oppose with working with him." The red and white robot, Duke, murmured, keeping a wary eye on the large robot.

The purple one, Shadowmaru, was the only one who stayed silent, though the cold glare he was giving Chieftain 1 wasn't any better. Right...he and his partner had used the ninja robot as a 'warm-up' for J-Decker, leaving him to die in the middle of the ocean. He supposed that wasn't the best first impression. Now that he thought of it, he had fought Gunmax as well, and...left him to die on the beach.

"I think we should give him another chance." A final voice interrupted Chieftain 1's thoughts, and to his surprise, it came from Deckerd himself, the blue robot staring at him, and the only one who seemed to have no hatred in his gaze. "We are robots with hearts and feelings, capable of change. If Yuuta thinks he can change, then so do I."

Yuuta?

Chieftain 1 glanced down at the small table at the back of the room, eyes widening at the sight of the young boy there, who stared back at him determinedly. Right, there had been a boy there when Chieftain 1 and his partner had killed J-Decker, or Deckerd he supposed, crying out desperately for Deckerd to wake up. The cries echoed throughout his mind now as he stared at the boy's face, as if haunting him for what he had caused.

The rest of the robots in the room shifted awkwardly, glancing at each other and Deckerd, before finally, Duke spoke up. "Well, if Deckerd and Boss are alright with it, I suppose I am too."

"I guess it's alright." Drillboy pouted, arms crossed over his chest.

"Just as long as he doesn't try anything funny." Power Joe grunted, and Dumpson nodded along with him.

"I agree." McCrane hummed.

Shadowmaru still said nothing, instead just glancing away from Chieftain 1, acting as if he didn't exist.

"Sure, whatever you say, baby." Gunmax grinned casually, though his body was still tense.

"From now on, you will be known as Chief." Commissioner Saejima declared, striking a pose beside Yuuta, who just gave the older man an exasperated look before turning his attention back to Chieftain- no, his name was Chief now.

"Welcome to the Brave Police, Chief." Yuuta murmured.

He...he was now a part of the Brave Police.

Notes:

So yeah, this concept just came into my mind and I decided to write about it...as if I don't have three other projects I need to be writing ;w;
