Stolen Light

Summary:

Set during the Inazuma Civil War (Spoilers Ahead):
Kazuha finds out the fatui had been handing out delusions and confronts Scaramouche rather violently.

Notes:

In this fic, Scaramouche is referred to as Kuni, a nickname derived from Kunikuzushi. Also, a disclaimer that this was originally written in 2022 and I don't feel like going through and fixing things.

Work Text:

He was his escape. That kind smile, that gentle touch, it pulled him away from the cold reality of the world. It swept him away and held him in a warm embrace, shattering any doubts he may have. Those crimson eyes looked at him with such love that he could feel everything else melt away until it was just them, wrapped in each other's arms and caught in sweet nothings.

Everything felt lighter when they were together. It felt brighter, like a sunny day that brought the flowers to a colorful bloom. It was soft, it was gentle, it was stolen.

That warm love was shattered the moment they saw each other on the battlefield. The wind blew cold, whisking away the bright colors now stained with the blood of friends. "What are you. . ?" The words had barely left his lips before a searing pain burned through him, spreading up from his gut. The tang of blood came to his tongue as he coughed, grabbing onto his lover's shoulders. "Kazuha. . ?"

"I saw what you did, Kuni." His voice was low, cold, nothing like the gentle words whispered back and forth in their time alone together. "You killed them." The hatred in the man's voice hurt almost more than the blade buried deep in his gut. "You killed so many of them with your goddamn delusions. Those were my friends."

He gasped for air past the pain, leaning against his lover and shaking. "Didn't want to. . ." He choked out, coughing again as his head spun. " 'm so s-sorry." Mere seconds passed before Kuni's legs gave out, pulling Kazuha down with him.

Kazuha held him close, running his fingers through his lover's hair. "Shh. Just let go, Kuni. Let go." His words were barely over a whisper, gracing Kuni's ears as he was held. Rasping breaths were caught in the cold air, slowly growing quieter as life left him. "That's it. Just let go." Silence finally fell over the two of them, blood sticking to Kazuha's skin and clothes as he held his lover close. "I'm sorry. I had to do it. I'll see you in Celestia, my love." He whispered. "Just wait for me."
