Summary
Hongjoong and Seonghwa have been dating for two years, and living under the same roof for one. They recently both changed careers and ended up on opposing shifts. Hongjoong was now a producer for a company smaller than his previous one, resulting in super early mornings and late afternoon returns. Seonghwa had just finished her degree and immediately picked up a job as a night shift nurse in an extremely busy hospital. She would just be getting home as her boyfriend was finishing up breakfast. The only days they got together was Seonghwa’s one weekend off a month, or they had a planned event. The constant brief exchanges and limited together-time, they couldn’t deal. They needed something. Something to keep them company when the other was away. It was non-negotiable at this point.
One weekend that they did have together, they spoke about a solution. Hongjoong was sipping his coffee, humming in thought, “How about we adopt a puppy?” He mentioned it swiftly, like it was a simple decision.
Seonghwa turned to him, her piercing siren eyes squinting in his direction, “What do you mean? How is a dog supposed to help with how we-” Her voice caught in her throat and she swallowed hard.
