"Shit." Akito said, his voice muffled with unchewed pancakes in his mouth. He slowly caressed his check to bare the pain.
"Hm? What happened?" His sister, Ena, asked while taking a picture of their table filled with food. Never once looking at her brother as she snaps a pic.
"I think I bit the inside of my cheek.." Akito hissed in pain, his voice still muffled with the pancakes in his mouth.
"..swallow your food first.. its not respectful" Ena took one look at her brother before rolling her eyes out of his focus.
"Shit, sis it actually hurts" Ena snapped out of her phone, looking at her brother as she inspected him from top to bottom.
"That's a tooth ache then" she states, immediately coming back to her phone. Akito was taken back,
"Tooth ache?! What a joke" he placed his fork and slicer down, moving the pancake plate away to replace it with a cheesecake plate.
"Psst hey, who do you think you are stealing my plate?" Ena turned sour
"Yhour noy evhen eating it"
(Your not even eating it.)
"Give it back! Your tooth ache is gonna get worse!" She said as she grabs her plate, pulling it back to her side of the table.
"It's not a tooth ache, I just bit my cheek!" Akito spoke back, his hands placed on his cheek on where his tooth ache was located.
"Shit! Ow..."
"That's it!" Ena spoke out, rushing to search on her phone for a dentist near their area.
"I'm gonna take you to see a doctor"
"...You really didn't need to.." Akito stared at his sister looking dumbfounded as he sat down shamefully on the other of the table. He had a look of both frustration and worrisome.
"I don't care?! I'm doing this for your own good!" Ena replies, showing of her older sister initiatives.
"Besides you need that mouth checked, the last time I went near it— it stinks!"
Akito scoffed as he placed his chin on his hands as he let his sister book an appointment for his stupid bubu. It was embarrassing for him, he never once wanted to going to the doctor over a simple toothache, but here he is now.
Annoyed, he decided to grab his plate of pancakes from earlier, eating it on the other side of his cheek to avoid painful aching. "Ow.."
"Yeah, you need to see the doctor"
It was early, 8:03am, and he just walked into the most extravagant looking dentist clinic in the area.
Akito took a look of the exterior, it felt so modern, and so futuristic, it made Akito scared, but impressed at the vibe. A little concerned, but still it gave a welcoming vibe.
"Ena, did you just take me to an expensive dentist appointment?" Akito turned his face to look at his sister who was glued to the screen of her mobile devices.
"Mmyeah.. I heard it was the best dentist in the area" Ena says, never once leaving her eyes off her phone. It was weird on how glued she was on her phone but Akito knew that he'd rather have a gun to his mouth rather than asking his sister.
Entering the lobby—and waiting area, he saw the long line of kids with parents waiting patiently for their turn and Akito had never felt more humiliated. As they both walked towards the receptionist, Akito could swear he could feel children staring him—eyeing him like he was an idiot.
"Ah! Yes, Akito Shinonome, right?" The receptionist gleefully asked.
"Yep! my brother" Ena confirmed. "I'll be his guardian, Ena Shinonome."
"Got it" the receptionist typed into her computer.
"Thank you, go on and wait on the waiting area just over there" the receptionist points the waiting area, before going back to working on her computer.
They both sat down on the seats, Akito clearly feeling uncomfortable at the sight of children with braces, and whatever special gear they had wrapped on their head– stare him down. I mean, getting a toothache is already bad enough, but being a grown up adds salt to the wound.
It almost felt like Ena planned this to humiliate him– to torture him! He thought as he turned his head to look at his sister, giggling at her phone like she doesn't have a care in the world.
He never felt so betrayed by his own blood.
Ignoring the staring children, he looked around the lobby, it really was modern and sleek, the plants scattered around the square room was visibly well kept and healthy, the unimpressive paintings of modern minimalist art that was hung on the wall, and the impressive symmetrical ceiling design from above.
And then.. he was bored.
He had forgotten to charge his phone, as well as forgetting to bring his charger so there was no way for him to be entertained during the waiting session, so basically it was hell for Akito, combined with the fact that his teeth is still aching.
"Hey Ena" Akito asks. His back slouching as he talks to her.
"What do you want"
"How many hours until it's our turn?"
"Maybe after the people in front of us?? I don't know, leave me alone" Ena snapped, leaving her brother staring at her in disbelief.
After the sudden outburst of his sister, he decided to leave her alone and move to the sofas near the windows, grabbed a newspaper to cover his face, sleep and hope that no child would disturb. In that why he could kill time and catch up with his sleep.
"Do I have your permission ma'am?"
"Yeah.. go on"
Sometime later, A child's screams can be heard over the walls separating the dentist room and the lobby. Sparking disturbance to those on the lobby quietly dozing off, especially Akito.
'What the fuck..' he woke up, not only did he wake up due to the blood screeching scream, he also woke up to his clothes soaked up in sweat, it was unbelievable and unfortunate for Akito, but he learned that he should never sleeping beside a window with the sun aimed directly at him.
He walked over to his sister, who is still, unsurprisingly on her phone scrolling through social media like an addict, again, without a care for the world.
"AAAAAAHHHH MOM , MAMAA!!" The childs screaming grows louder, upsetting and grabbing the attention of the parents who were quietly sitting down on the lobby
"What's happening over there?" Akito asked Ena, his head tilting looking at her.
"Oh yeah the child was misbehaving I think? So the doctor just continued to work without calming the kid down" Ena put down her phone for once, her hands on her lap.
"Dude, is he like gonna fired for that?"
"No, the mother accepted it"
"...and how do you know?" Akito tilts his head even further
"The walls aren't soundproofed"
".."
"When's our tu—"
"Can you leave me alone?" Ena interrupted.
"Uh, but when's our turn"
"Oh we are next, I'm sure it'll be fine" Ena says, making Akito quiet and not long after her statement another blood screeching scream has occurred.
"Jesus..."
"You'll be fine Akito, it's just a doctor and Besides you're an adult already, don't be such a baby.." Ena insulted him, while she has turning on her phone to open nightcord.
"Alright sis.. whatever you say."
"..Right..it's almost our turn, better prep yourself."
And long after she said that the door to the dentist office opened. With a child coming out looking like their soul has been shattered, it must've been the kid who cause the empty waiting area to be filled with concerned and sacred kids after his screaming episode. Oh well.
"Ena and Akito Shinonome?" A gentle voice called, instantly sending shivers to Akitos spine.
"Oh that's us, let's go" Ena stood up and walked towards the dentist office, leaving Akito behind. And Akito was totally scared, he doesn't know why he is terrified to see the doctor, breathing in and out he walked towards the door.
"Here goes nothing.."
