Jonathan pulls back just slightly, looking into her eyes. “You waited for me,” he reminds her, definitely teasing now.
He expects her to shove him, to laugh at his bad attempt at a joke or even maybe get a little offended as she had the first time they talked about this, in a shitty motel bed under equally shitty blankets. But here, in the warm morning light, wrapped together under soft, white sheets, she just cups his cheek in her hand. Her big eyes are so beautifully blue, and the sincere and affectionate look in them makes Jonathan’s breath catch in his throat.
“I did,” Nancy whispers, pressing another smiling kiss against his lips.
