Chapter Text
I’d like to think I’d die for you,
Hung up on that damned cross,
Breathing in the scent of wood,
And as a carpenter’s son,
I’d pray for salvation that would come too late,
Because I’m no god incarnate,
Nobody important enough to warrant saving,
Unless you’re the one who comes for me.
The seraphim chant around God,
And call him holy, holy, holy.
I’d like to call you lover, lover, lover,
Hands stained red with blood,
Or was it pomegranate flesh?
I’d like to hold you,
Smear your skin in crimson
Because you look divine
Covered,
In wine and bread,
In dirt and ruin,
In me.
Laugh all you want,
You sound like stars,
And dust,
And magic,
Like colliding supernovas,
Like a match made in heaven,
Or is it hell?
We’re sinners after all.
Priests speak of betrayal when they talk of Judas and Jesus,
But all I see is a man who worked too hard,
And one who loved too tightly,
All I think about is how he would have felt,
When Judas had asked him,
Am I still your friend?
And the tightness in my throat already tells me my answer.
I am hungry for things I should not want,
And oddly, it feels good,
Bitter laughs crawl out of the hollow of my chest,
And enlightenment blooms heavy there,
As I realize,
Who cares if salvation comes?
My salvation is you, my dear,
And you’re all the God I need.
When He comes down to take the righteous away to safety,
I’ll hold your hand tight,
Shake my head,
And smile.
Rapture is nothing without you.
Paradise is nothing without you.
Hell might burn,
But at least I’ll burn knowing,
I made my choice,
And it was mine,
and mine alone.
