Summary
Dean felt like he was holding reins on his mind, and they were about to snap. He had to keep slamming the gate closed on his thoughts, or else every rotten thing inside of him would spill out. And he would know. He was uniquely poised as the only person who would know. He had gone through that exact thing, when the Archangel Michael was caged in his mind.
He felt now like he had when Michael was possessing him. Like there was something beating against his skull at every moment that he forced himself to ignore. Only this time, it was his own memories. It wasn't some random souped-up angel, it was his angel haunting his every thought. If Dean had given up the fight with Michael, the world likely would've ended. If he gave this fight up now…
Frankly, he didn't know what would happen.

Set three weeks after 15x18 Despair, (Chuck=defeated, Jack=God, but fuck the finale) Dean is decidedly not doing well. In his opinion, he has never been doing worse. He keeps the feelings at bay with copious amounts of alcohol, sleep, and not much else. When Jack comes back, saying that he couldn't cut it as God, it's Dean's last straw.
