Lights

Summary:

First of my christmas fics, originally posted on tumblr. Eddie tries to put up christmas lights.

Work Text:

Wow, this was such a great idea.

Eddie was balanced precariously on a step ladder out at the front of the house, stringing Christmas lights arch by arch near the top just under the roof. He wasn’t exactly known for his grace and right now, struggling against the intense urge to laugh as you fed him the string of lights, you were reminded exactly why.

His hair was blowing in the chilly wind, strands getting stuck in his eyes and mouth causing him to frantically (and unsuccessfully) shake his head back and forth, much to your increasing amusement.

“Here, lean down and I’ll get it for you!”

“mphwait-” he mumbled as he, bless his soul, stretched his arm impossibly higher upwards to try to get into an inconveniently placed corner. After trying and failing he sighed comically, shaking his head in futility one last time before ceding and letting go of the ladder to lean down to face you so you could help.

You leaned in, fingers grazing his cheek to remove the hair and staying unnecessarily long on his cheekbones after tucking the hair behind his ear. Your faces were inches apart and you held his gaze as he leaned in, lips barely grazing yours when-

CRASH! Eddie fell unceremoniously to the ground, ladder wobbling and kiss denied. His hair splayed out against the ground as his face scrunched up and he groaned in pain- “Ahgh, my tailbone!” And then you were laughing and he couldn’t help but join in at the sound, on the cold ground laughing like a buffoon pulling at your hand. You were trying to help him up but he only pulled you down next to him, hands to the back of your head to pull you in and kiss you in earnest, thankfully without any of his hair involved.

As you two pulled away you were still laughing, the kind of breathy laugh at the end of a bout of them where your mind replays the punchline over and over, not yet done finding it funny.

“Well at least you weren’t holding the lights when that happened or you would’ve pulled them all down with us.”

“Oh shut up.”
