Work Text:
Pomni found herself sitting on the floor by Jax’s bed. The rabbit had his back turned towards her as he slept on his side, or at least pretending to. He wasn’t asleep and she knew it. She knew he was hoping she’d walk out, thinking he was asleep, and he can go back to spiraling and abstracting. But she knew better now. Jax tossed and turned and she just watched him. He groaned and sat up, rubbing his eyes with his middle fingers.
“I can’t fucking sleep.”
“Do you need your meds?”
“No.”
“You sure?”
“Yes!”
“Ok.”
Jax sat up in his bed, his head in his hands. He was wearing a simple tank top and boxers as he sat there in silence.
“Are you sure you can’t leave?”
“I’m sure, Jax.”
“Fuck.”
Pomni hesitated before she rubbed his back gently. He flinched a bit but didn’t move away at all. She took that as a sign to continue. She comfortingly rubbed his back, attempting to soothe him. He just ran his hands through his rabbit ears and awkwardly sat there.
“I can’t sleep.”
“I can’t help unless you let me.”
….
“Pomni..”
“Yes?”
“..Can I have my meds?”
“Yes.”
She took his hand gently as she led him into the kitchen, where she was met with Ragatha who was taking her own paranoia meds.
“Oh hi pomni! Hi Jax..”
Pomni waved and Jax just grumbled.
Pomni opened the cabinet as Jax sat atop the counter. Pomni looked through the various meds and eventually found the bottle labeled for Jax specifically. Caine creates medication for those players who need it. He has made medication for Gangle to help manage her manic episodes or depressive one. He’s made some for Zooble’s chronic pain. And even for Ragatha’s paranoia and anxiety. He mostly has pills for Jax though. Most of the bottles inside the locked cabinet are labeled for him. It wasn’t unknown to Caine that Jax was pretty fucked up in the head as he has made all sorts of medication for him for issues such as borderline schizophrenia, adhd, mania, severe paranoia, and of course, insomnia.
Jax didn’t usually have trouble sleeping but tonight was rough. After being found nearly abstracting in his room and now forced to be watched 24/7 caused his anxiety to spike. Now he couldn’t sleep. He hoped the pills would help but he knows that probably won’t happen. Ragatha shot him a worried glance but he just looked down, still sitting on the counter. She finished popping her paranoia and anxiety pills before she walked off down the hallway to her room. Pomni turned to face Jax, holding a glass of water and 2 of his insomnia pills in her hand. She gently opened his mouth with her thumb and placed the pills on his tongue before handing him the cup.
He swallowed the pills with the water and immediately felt nauseous. He hated this side effect. Because now that he was nauseous, he was anxious and terrified even. He was terrified that he was gonna vomit. He can’t stand that thought. It gives him anxiety, makes him not wanna eat for a month. Because food would make vomiting a higher possibility. He hates that his mind spirals like this. Just take the pills dammit. He looked up at Pomni and saw her eyes, they looked tired and worried. Fuck. He hated making her so worried about him. Why did she even care so much?
Pomni led Jax back down the hallway and into his bedroom, gripping his arm to make sure he wouldn’t try to run off and abstract again. She entered his room, the door open still, and sat him on the edge of his bed while she kneeled by him on the floor. He grumpily looked at her, wanting to be alone again.
“What, Jax? Would you rather it be Ragatha here, hm?”
Jax shook his head and rubbed his eyes again. He laid on his side and allowed Pomni to lay next to him and rub his back.
“Just try to sleep, okay? You’ve had a long day. I’ll be here when you wake up, I promise.”
And with that. Jax was able to sleep. His body went limp with exhaustion. As he slept, she was really able to look at him. She noticed the severe eye bags, the scars on his shoulders, she felt how thin he was through his clothes. As she rubbed his back she could feel his spine. Shit, she could even see his spine through the fabric. She noticed how tight clothes can look baggy on him. Not just now, but in everything. She noticed at the bar. How his clothes just hung loose even if they were meant to fit skinny people. That worried the shit out of her. She knew eating didn’t really matter here but god she wanted to make sure he was eating enough. She would definitely talk to the others about this.
For now, she just laid next to him in his bed. The door is still open just in case. She stayed up for a long while to make sure he was really asleep. Once she was sure, she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around his waist. And with that, she fell asleep with him. In his bed. The warmth of each other made them both feel safe. There were a lot of issues they had to work through but she was determined to not abandon him.
