I’m not the man you used to know, not really
“Fives? It’s really you! You’re back!”
“Heh, yeah is me Echo, love.”
Echo did not wait or hesitate at all, simply jumping into the arms of the man he had thought lost to him for good. At leat in this life time, perhaps not for good. His very own counterpart, his best friend, his soulmate, his, love.
“You’re actually here, alive, right now! I… still can’t believe it, Fives!” Echo cried softly.
“I can say the same about you, love. I thought Rex was trying to make a really morbid joke when he said he’d found you. Ya know, while back and all.” Fives too, in tears, both of them emotional and surprised.
“Well, I thought I was dead for sure. For a long while guess I was that too.” Echo admitted, something not un-true either.
“Well, they pulled me out of ice and my last memory was, guess dying… so we did have similar experiences there. But yeah, you can’t keep a good trooper down for too long, even in death.”
They both laughed at that through their tears, the hugging subsiding, taking their own space again, tentatively hanging close, just in case… It was all still new, despite being old for them both.
“Yeah, we sure did beat the odds there.”
“Still, good to have you back, I mean… It’s been a long while I know, between us lots having happened, but when I first heard about you, through Rex, you know… I was hoping….”
“Yeah… But you’re still the same, Fives… Me, well I’m not exactly the old Echo anymore am I.”
“You mean the cybernetics?”
“Those yeah, and I was… well dunno how much Rex told you about what happened to me back with the Techno Union and all.”
“Enough. And honestly, I really don’t care about any of it, as you’re here now with me. For good?”
“You’d still have me, despite everything?”
“Echo, what ever happened, whomever you became, things change true. But I still love you. I want to be with you Echo. You’re the one I love and some cybernetics or extra parts or whatever happened without your consent back there while captured, nothing changes that for me.”
“Prove it.”
Fives did prove it. His hands on Echo so fast back again then drawing him in for a promise filled, loving and deep kiss. Fives, conveying all his feelings for Echo without the words, those would have only been in the way.
