Chapter Text
The two of them had stayed up way past their bedtimes, but that didn’t really matter right now. They were too immersed in their video game to care.
Until now.
Stan yawned, rubbing his eyes. “What time is it…”
Kyle looked at his phone. “Eleven.”
”Jesus.” Stan murmured. He then brought the mic of his headphones to his lips. “Okay fellas, take me out.”
Stan’s Fortnite character was viciously shot to death three seconds later. He exited out of the game and turned off the Xbox. Kyle, meanwhile, took a sip of water, and shut off his phone. Neither of them wanted to be tempted to stay up any longer. Last time they stayed up too late, it was morning, and that day was a disaster.
“That was pretty good dude.” Kyle nodded.
”Oh, thanks!”
“I think it’s great that you quit when you did. You might’ve gotten sloppy.”
This got a snort out of Stan, and a bashful smile. He didn’t respond to this, but he did pat Kyle on the head. The ushanka protected his ratty hair from Stan’s grubby, sweaty hands from gaming for hours on end. Though, he had the feeling that Kyle probably didn’t care.
”Ok…” Kyle smiled back, pulling away. “…where do I sleep?”
Stan paused. “Wha?”
”I mean, I’m your guest, and I know your stupid dad uses that extra room… so…”
Oh. Right.
These things could never be easy, could they?
Stan tugged off his beanie. “Um… you could sleep on the couch..?”
”That can work…” Kyle brought a finger to his chin. “But I can’t just be on it bare.”
Bare?
”You have extra blankets, right?” Kyle clarified.
”O-oh, yeah, we do, uh…” Stan got off the couch. “I’ll get you one.”
”Thanks dude.”
As quietly as he could, he snuck into the basement, and took out a nice fluffy red blanket. It hadn’t been used in a while, but it was still clean, so he hoped it would be suitable. He also grabbed an extra pillow.
By the time he returned upstairs, he spotted Kyle in a very peculiar position. He was on his side, one hand on his hip while the other was on his face. His legs were crossed and his brows were furrowed. It was honestly kind of cute.
This tense expression of Kyle’s faded upon seeing Stan staring.
“Hi.” Said Kyle, quickly sitting up. “Didn’t mean to startle you…”
”N-no, no, you’re good, dude.” Stan said quickly. “I got you your stuff.”
He threw the blanket onto Kyle, and for a moment, he was worried when his super-best friend didn’t move underneath. A second later, however, and Kyle emerged from it with his fingers bent. Like he was a tiger leaping out from the grass.
Stan giggled, and then properly handed the pillow to Kyle.
”Thank you, Stan.” Kyle said gently, placing the pillow underneath his head as he laid back down. “Goodnight.”
”Nighty night.” Replied Stan.
He stood there for a moment, and then crept upstairs, to his room. Past his parents. Past Shelley. Into his room, into his own bed.
Alone.
