    The most human thing of all is our need to belong. To be part of something greater. A group. A tribe. A family. Anything that might make us feel accepted, make us feel less alone, less like loney people pretending not to be.
    Lily Evans found that need beautiful. Sweet. The way people reach for each other.
    Remus Lupin doesn’t see it the same way. If you ask him, belonging is a weakness. Needing people only gives him something to lose. He doesn’t need anyone. He can’t afford to.
    It’s been three years since Lily Evans left Hogwarts. Three years since she walked away from the world where she belonged, even as it told her she didn’t. At twelve years old, she made her choice to leave.
