Chapter Text
It was a cold, snowy day in the Dark Cacao Kingdom. Cinnamon Milk Cookie was walking back to his study, a jar of fresh jellies and some crinkled papers in his arms. He sighed, the cold wind swirling around him and messing up his icing curls. It felt a little like a trudge. No, it was a trudge. He made it back to the scholar's quarters, and then down the stairs that wound down right to his own door. Cinnamon Milk Cookie shifted the things in his arms and grabbed his key, shoving it into the lock and pushing against the door. It opened, and Cinna nearly toppled, his hands slipping against the jar.
"Crumbs-"
Cinnamon's eyecings darted up to the sounds of a low giggle, and he instantly straightened, his glasses hanging loosely on his face.
"A-Affogato Cookie, royal supervisor.. What are you doing here?"
Affogato Cookie, who was sitting with his legs elegantly crossed on Cinnamon Milk's bed, smiled and waved a hand, eyecings crinkling.
"Am I unwelcome?"
Cinnamon Milk Cookie flushed and shook his head, finally setting the jar of jellies down and his papers on his desk.
"No, of course not! It was just... unexpected."
Affogato rolled his eyes, clearly picking up the lies.
"Yes, and I suppose those jellies weren't supposed too be a surprise gift?"
"Eep-"
The dark cookie shook his head and got up from Cinnamo Milk's bed, elegantly swaying over to the tan cookie. He took his face in his hands.
"That's terribly sweet of you, dear, but what's the occasion?"
Cinnamon Milk Cookie's dough brightened as he felt the jam turn inside him. He looked away.
"Uhh... Nothing.? I just, you've been working so hard..."
Affogato Cookie smiled and brushed Cinna's stubbled chin.
"That is terribly sweet, almost too sweet."
He suddenly pulled away and crossed his arms eyecing brows raising.
"Are you sure you aren't hiding something?"
"Not at all, honey."
Cinnamon smiled, a tired smile, but a honest one. Affogato sighed with disappointment. His dear was overworking again. He rolled his eyecings.
"Sure... Though, I suppose I will accept such a grand gesture..."
Cinnamon Milk Cookie smiled wider.
"If-"
It dimmed.
"If, you promise to get some actual rest tonight."
The sweeter cookie frowned, eyecing brows crinkling.
"Will you be here tonight...?"
"No. I have a meeting with my disciples."
Cinnamon Milk glanced at his scattered papers with a frown. No way was he sleeping tonight, that would be torture! Affogato clearly saw this and sighed, moving closer again and taking his dear by the arms.
"I really wish I could stay, but...-"
"You're their leader, can't you just tell them no??"
Cinnamon Milk was clearly in a pouty mood. Affogato gave him a look.
"No. I'm supposed to be a stable form of support-"
"You mean deceit,"
"AND. We're planning our outfits for the winter festivities-"
"It's always winter here."
Affogato sighed, exasperated. His stupid, pouting cookie... he threw a hand up in defeat. As if.
"Fine, one night. But you're coming to the next meeting, and participating."
Cinnamon shrugged, smiling and rolling on his feet. Sounded like a fair deal.
"Gee, thanks Affi."
"Don't mention it, scholar."
They stared at eachother for a moment before laughing and scoffing at the other's actions. Cinnamon Milk wiped an eyecing, it itching for a moment.
"Soo... What now.?"
Affogato pursed his lips and thought, hand on his cheek. Cinnamon Milk couldn't help but gaze fondly.
"We could consider eating some of those jellies.."
The dark cookie got a look at his dear staring at him. He shut that down by pushing the other's head down. Cinnamon let out a choked laugh, eyes closing in a happy way.
Affogato looked away, rolling his eyes. He took his hand off of Cinnamon Milk's head and went over to the large jelly jar, peering at it.
"...How much, exactly, was this?"
Cinnamon Milk fixed himself, smiling awkwardly.
"Not much, actually. There was a sale.."
"Cinnamon Milk Cookie."
Cinnamon Milk's smiled widened along with his eyes.
"Only thirty coins!"
Affogato looked at his dear, brow raised. He placed a hand on the jar and shrugged, unscrewing the lid.
"And it was a trusted merchant?"
"Yup! From the Jagae Guild."
The darker cookie hummed and took a jelly and bit into it, testing it.
"Not bad."
Cinnamon Milk Cookie walked over to Affogato, reaching over and taking a jelly for himself. He had to agree, the Jagae Guild seemed to have the best products. Shame they didn't come to the kingdom all that often.
They ate in silence for a few minutes, ferling comfortable in eachother's company.
Cinnamon Milk yawned. Affogato gave him a side eye. He laughed, scratching his icing.
"Guess I'm a bit tired..."
Affogato closed the jar and gave Cinnamon Milk a pointed look.
"A little? You stayed up again. Do you know what they'll say, a head scientist not getting good rest?"
Cinnamon Milk looked away, feeling embarrassed.
"This kingdom barely gets good rest..."
"As if I don't know that!"
He took his dear's hand and dragged him to the bed, the tan cookie stuttering at the abrupt movement.
"W-wait, we haven't even discussed your day!"
Affogato stopped, making the slightly taller cookie tumble onto his shoulder. He clenched Cinnamon Milk's hand.
"Dear, we can talk tomorrow."
Cinnamon Milk whined. Affogato rolled his eyes
"Honeyyyy, I just wanna listen to your beautiful voice..."
Affogato's cheeks reddened. His dear... No wonder he scored such a catch as the royal advisor himself. This cookie was pathetic. Pathetic enough to worship Affogsto, but apparently not enough to be a disciple. Strange.
"You may listen, as you fall asleep. I... I will sing, I suppose."
Cinnamon Milk grinned and fell back onto his bed, still holding Affogato's hand.
"Darling, I'd worship your whole dough if you did that. Now get up here."
Affogato sighed and got on the bed, shifting and resting against the pillows. Cinnamon Milk put his head in Affogato's lap. Affogato hummed.
"Alright, well... In the cold, snowy, kingdom... No one feels alone... For it is together... Forevermore...".
And with that, Cinnamon Milk closed his eyes and smiled, drifting to sleep at his darlings soothing voice.
