Work Text:
Draco was marching through Diagon Alley, letting go of his mother's hand the moment he laid eyes to the row of shops in there, amazed and excited over his enrollment to Hogwarts. Sometimes Atticus would tell him his story while studying in there, with a hint a teasing tone. Along with some comments about their family, "But i doubt they will send you a letter. Malfoy's name is a curse for us."
But to his surprise, while a snow storm happened outside of their manor, an owl made a way through their door. Narcissa found him standing still close to the door, hoping one of the Malfoy would open the door for him.
"Draco, come here!" She shouted as she brought the letter and the owl inside, making her way to the fireplace. "Aren't you a poor boy, must be so tired flying through the snow." She gently pats the owl head and wing, brushing the snow that lingers its body.
"Mother." Draco ran to her, panting.
"What are you doing before my love? You're drenched in sweat." Narcissa let go of the owl and came to her son, pulling out her handkerchief from pocket and tapping it to Draco's forehead, gently.
"I was learning how to ride broom, with brother." Each word comes from his mouth and is filled with panting.
"Oh darling, come sit. Your brother exhausts you too much, and why are you riding the broom inside of the manor?"
"I'm sorry mother, won't happen again. I promise." Draco pulled out his pinky finger and Narcissa happily linked it with her. His face was beaming with a smile, despite some of the sweat that can be traced in his face.
"You got a letter. I believe you would love this one."
"What is it mother?" Draco took a glance at her hand, one that was holding a letter with a purple stamp on it.
"Hogwarts."
"NO WAY!" He jumped from the chair, mouth open. Making a shocked face that reminds Narcissa of Atticus back then. "BROTHER, BROTHER. THEY WANT ME!"
Draco remembers the whole manor when into frantic because of that one letter, even Lucius making a shocked face just like him after hearing Draco shout from his study room. Atticus ran towards his little brother and lifted him up, shouting 'you're our star Draco!' for some time.
But now Draco's excitement can't hold him. Narcissa's voice was drowned in the sea of people at Diagon Alley, and Draco didn't look back at all, not even once. He believes he knows the way because of Atticus constant story, and he did remember accompanying his mother to the Gringotts back then. Such a fool.
"Can't wait to get my wand!" He said as he trying to squeeze himself through the adults. Run with no stop at all. Until he bumped hard into someone, bouncing back, almost hitting the street cold and hard stone if someone not hold him fast enough. Someone did tho. "Awh!"
"Sorry, didn't see ya. Everything good?" The man that he bumped crouched down, trying to look into Draco's face.
"It's alright, a bit aching tho, my nose. But everything is fine." He said as he looked into the man's face too. "WAIT, you're Harry Potter right?" Draco forgot about his aching nose, grabbed the man's sleeves.
"I am Harry Potter." He let out a sigh. "Now that i look closely, your face kinda reminds me of someone. Someone annoying to be precise."
"I'm Atticus's younger brother! You remember him right?" Draco grabs still tight on the Harry sleeve, not wanting to let it go. "He told me about you and the way you defeat You-Know-Who! I can only imagine how you do it, but it must have been so amazing!" Draco ramble won't stop.
"Oh, right. Atticus, how can i forget that prick. So you must be him, little Malfoy, Draco," Harry answered. Atticus and his brother are really different, that man is still stiff even after a decade of their rivalry. "But why are you alone in Diagon Alley, little one?" He then put his own hand over Draco's hand that grabbed him.
"Hogwarts sent letter, so I'm here, with mother, to get a wand, robes, cauldron, potion ingredients, parchment for school. As well as an owl!"
"Must be fun."
"I believe so!"
"Then can you let go of this?" Draco averted his eyes into his hand, and pulled it right away. Feeling embarrassed.
"My apologies Mr. Potter."
"It's okay. But I don't see your mother anywhere." Harry stands up and scans people that are passing by them, trying to spot Narcissa but find nothing. "I thought she would pop out any minute, but there's none."
Draco's whole body is alarmed, he shut his mouth and swallowed saliva hard enough. Trying to not look into Harry's face. "She goes into Sugarplum's Sweet Shop! Father likes chocolate so Mother buys some for him."
"Didn't know Lucius likes chocolate."
"Ah— well, father loves it after getting out of Azkaban!"
Harry's mouth shaping an 'O' from Draco's answer, but he definitely can see what he's trying to hide. "Come with me will ya? I can bring you to Mr. Ollivander."
"For Merlin sake! You got to be kidding me." Draco was beaming with a bright smile on his face.
"Why would i lie to a kid?"
"Atticus said adult are difficult to understand and sometimes they'll lie in the name of a better life."
"Well, they do lie, and it's for a better life. Let's not dwell into this matter anymore. Come." Harry walks away, followed by Draco's tiny step. Their destination is to get Draco a new wand.
"Yeah." Draco slipped his hand into Harry's. And showing a grin when Harry glances over him, face full of questions. He is happy right now, and no one can stop him from whatever he wants to do. Not even Harry himself.
...
The moon shine makes its way to the window, shone over Draco's blond hair. The boy was sleeping soundly on Harry's right arm, making it his pillow and tightly hugging his body. It's past midnight, Harry couldn't sleep. One of his sleepless nights kicked. So he just spent the time watching Draco chest rise and fall, and didn't forget to stare at his face.
"beautiful," mumbled Harry.
He reached Draco's hair, combed it with his calloused hand. Until the boy accidentally wakes up from it. "I'm sorry love, get some more sleep."
Harry didn't get any answer, but Draco shoved his face to Harry's neck, nuzzling. Draco slim hand making its way towards Harry's face, tracing it, tapping his eyes and lips.
"I dream of our first meeting."
"Must be lovely." Harry's hand makes it way again to Draco's hair. "Do I look any different from the young me? In your dream, i must be younger right."
"Of course you do, young and full of strength." Draco lifted up his face, blinking a few times to accustom his eyes to the light, then staring right to Harry's green eyes. A grin showed in his face.
"So you mean I've lost all my strength in that 9 years huh?"
"What if i say yes ...." A big grin still in Draco's face.
"Then I'll show you the true strength of mine."
