Work Text:
1. hinata shoyo
to be completely honest, the news was the most shocking to hinata. he couldn’t believe it, how could he not have noticed? he was relatively close friends with all of them, how could he not have noticed it sooner?
all the signs were there. tsukishima started sitting down beside kageyama most of the time. they would have private tutoring sessions when they used to do it as a group most of them. kageyama would smile slightly when he sees an extra carton of milk in his bag after practice, when hinata knew that only tsukishima went to vending machines after practice.
maybe kageyama’s words held a little bit of truth to it, he was indeed a bit stupid.
but still, he still can’t believe it!
“you.. and you.. you guys are really dating?” hinata says at their lunch table, pointing at the couple while he was seated beside yamaguchi and yachi.
“do you want us to kiss to prove it?” tsukishima dares with his usual condescending tone.
“eeek! you don’t need to do that. but seriously, i’m shocked. i didn’t think you guys liked each other.. you guys always bicker!”
“maybe because i liked seeing the king all riled up.” tsukishima says, kageyama just turns his head, trying his best to hide his blush.
well that explained their whole dynamic. tsukishima liked seeing kageyama’s reactions to his teases and provocations, while kageyama was always on his last straw when talking to him. they aren’t exactly the most lovey dovey couple out there, but their relationship was far from boring.
2. yamaguchi tadashi
during the summer break, yamaguchi picked up a part time job as a delivery man on the days he didn’t have volleyball training as he was saving up money to finally take his girlfriend, yachi, on a date.
his day went as usual, except for the fact that one order was ordered by a customer named kageyama. yamaguchi thinks it’d be a bit funny if the order ended up being his teammate’s food.
the reality exceeded yamaguchi’s expectations. not only was he right that his teammate kageyama was the one who ordered, the one who came out to get the food was tsukishima, his best friend.
“tsukki…” yamaguchi was absolutely shocked. not only was he not expecting him to see him today, he was in kageyama’s house, in completely casual attire… and a hickey on his neck!
“oi kei, what’s taking so long-” kageyama went out, also with a hickey on his neck!
“it’s tadashi. hi. we didn’t know this was the restaurant you worked at. what a small world.” tsukishima says as he gets the food, “you look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“i’m just really happy for you guys.” yamaguchi says genuinely. he has been friends with tsukishima for a long time now, and he had always struggled in making friends due to his sarcastic tone and condescending personality, but he finally found the person for him.
tsukishima smiles slightly, “thank you. do you want to share with us?”
“ah.. thank you for the offer tsukki, but i have another delivery. i picked up a lot of shifts so i can treat toka-chan to that café she wants to…” yamaguchi says, waving goodbye to tsukishima and kageyama, “enjoy love birds.”
“i just realized hinata is the only first year that’s single.” kageyama says, tsukishima just laughs it off before going in the house to eat.
meanwhile hinata just sneezed while he was hanging up his laundry.
3. sugawara koushi
it’s been exactly a week since tsukishima and kageyama revealed to the team that they were dating, and honestly sugawara thinks nothing has changed at all. tsukishima still always teased kageyama any chance he got. but he just noticed that kageyama tended to turn his head to hide his blush most of the time. how come he has never noticed that?
but he started to notice the little things whenever his two juniors were near him. they had a matching keychain on the straps of their bags, they would often wear each other’s volleyball jackets (even if the design was just the same, he thinks maybe it’s the thought that counts?) and he would find it extremely cute whenever kageyama rested his head on tsukishima’s shoulders whenever they had their water breaks.
they weren’t the type of couple to publicly display their affection, but they express their love in their own ways, sugawara may just die from their cuteness.
“kei… you’re staying over tonight?” he overhears kageyama asking when they were cleaning up for the day. this was the softest he has heard kageyama talk in the months he has known him, how cute.
“i am. i brought my essentials. should we buy dinner before going home?” tsukishima says, helping kageyama carry his bag.
kageyama just nodded before they went out while holding hands, waving goodbye to the team. sugawara and azumane found their juniors so cute. they both think they will get married some day in the future.
4. sawamura daichi
if someone asked daichi when he felt the most at peace, he would probably answer being with his girlfriend and the team bus ride home after a match. up until the reveal of kageyama and tsukishima’s relationship, the two would set separately during bus rides.
but today, they chose to sit beside each other. kageyama rested his head on tsukishima’s shoulder, while tsukishima rested his head on kageyama’s head, they were adorable. he was grateful that they both felt comfortable to the team to be affectionate like that.
he never expected them to be a couple, but ever since they revealed it to the team, daichi found them cute together. their dynamic is certainly one of a kind. a few minutes later, he found himself also closing his eyes, the tiredness of the match today getting to him.
when he woke up, it was still a bit of a distance from their school. he turned around to check his teammates, a habit he developed ever since he became the captain and he saw tsukishima and kageyama already awake.
he never wanted to accidentally see tsukishima kiss kageyama. he quickly turned his head, giving them privacy. he was happy that his juniors were in love. but it makes him miss his girlfriend, yui, the volleyball girls team captain.
“one more…” he hears kageyama try to whisper, daichi only heard it as he was sitting on the seat right in front of them.
“you did well today, king. two milk cartons for you, hmm?”
awe, young love. he definitely interrupted their moment when he walked with them home that one time.
5. nishinoya yuu & tanaka ryuunosuke
“ryuuu! let’s eat lunch together!” nishinoya says, sitting in front of tanaka as he unwraps his bento. they then began talking about the game that they were playing.
while talking, nishinoya glances at the view of the windows right beside them. he didn’t expect to see tsukishima and kageyama sitting on a bench that they could see from the window.
“woah, that’s tsukishima and kageyama… i have never seen kageyama being so smiley like that.” tanaka remarks, also staring at the view from the window.
“the first years have a better love life than us. only shoyo can relate to us single men…” nishinoya says, sighing dramatically. “but they’re cute. unexpected but cute.”
“i never expected kageyama to blush after being obviously provoked, but whatever works for them. they’re a cute couple.” tanaka adds.
the both of them look at the couple from the window view, seeing them comparing hand sizes, which made the two of them laugh. their juniors were adorable.
+ 1
kageyama swears he locked the door. he swears by it.
he never expected the locker room lock to be faulty, exposing him and tsukishima kissing to the entire team. it was a good thing that they were only kissing and no hands under the shirt action. he would die if that happened.
they both expected to be scolded by daichi, as why were they making out in the locker room in the first place. but instead, the whole team was teasing them. they both don’t know if this is better or they’ll just take the scolding.
“if you want to kiss somewhere private, i recommend the hallway near the table tennis gym, they rarely use it.” daichi advises.
“and why do you know that?” sugawara asks him with a raised eyebrow.
the team soon erupted into laughter as soon as daichi noticed his mistake.
“it won’t happen again, we’re sorry.” tsukishima says, bowing his head slightly, so did kageyama.
“we aren’t mad, guys! just surprised… not everyday you see your teammates kiss each other like their lives depend on it.” for some reason, azumane’s words didn’t seem to soothe the couple. instead, they both blushed. “we’re all just teenage boys after all. we understand.” he adds.
tsukishima and kageyama both sighed a breath of relief. they were grateful for their team and how supportive they were. they were right, they were just teenage boys with overwhelming hormones. (plus kageyama really wanted to feel tsukishima’s lips today as he had a rather rough day, but they didn’t know that) they’ll just continue whatever they were doing in tsukishima’s room.
