Chapter Text
After a long day’s work, Kaeya is finally taking his long awaited and much needed vacation. Thoughts of sleeping in, of late nights at the Angel’s Share without worry and of days spent on the Mondstadt beaches had been teasing him for weeks now and that had been the muse of his fantasies. He sits on his bed and sighs. Who would have thought the cavalry captain would have so much work to do when the cavalry isn’t even in town? He looks around his room at the clutter that slowly took over his room since he moved here.
Yeah, he should really do something about that.
It only got that bad because he didn’t have the time to take care of it since he worked too much. Or perhaps he didn’t have the willpower to do so and overworked himself to have a reason to avoid it. Whichever it is (most likely the latter), it has gotten to the point where he doesn’t really have a choice. It’s embarrassing really, what if he wanted to bring someone over? What would people think? Kaeya feels a knot in his stomach but doesn’t know, or rather doesn’t want to admit why he feels like this all of a sudden.
The piles of trash, dirty clothes and boxes he never bothered opening after moving stare back at him, almost mocking his hesitation.
He puts his hands on his knees and stands back up. The sooner it’s dealt with, the sooner he can actually enjoy his vacation.
Unbeknownst to him, he was about to embark on one of the most tedious journeys of his life.
The one down memory lane.
He started by taking out the trash, which there was more than he would have thought. Old take out boxes from Good Hunter’s, empty bottles, flyers, wrappers and various papers that he should have thrown out long ago. Once that was out, he moved to the dirty clothes. Time moved in a blur and all the fabric was now in a hamper, ready to be washed and placed in a closet properly. Kaeya even used this as an opportunity to sort out some he didn’t want anymore. He’d bring this pile to the Church of Favonius tomorrow morning. That is surely going to make himself feel better about the person he is.
He sat down to catch his breath and looked at what was left to do. Boxes of various sizes sat in front of him.
These have been in that exact same spot since he bought the house. They were filled with his belongings he had brought back from his father- well Mr. Ragnvindr’s mansion. It had been so long since he and Adelinde packed them he actually couldn’t recall what was in them anymore.
Or even why he hadn’t brought himself to unpack them yet.
Well he’s gonna have to eventually.
He moves to sit on the floor, grabs a blade nearby and slices open one of the boxes to inspect its contents.
That night, the wind blew particularly hard in Mondstadt.
