"I was just thinking about when we were in that bathroom," Adam said, but his voice sounded distant— usually he sounded upset, but this only served to intrigue Lawrence more.
"What about it?" he asked, finding himself almost nervous.
"It's just— you called me a bottom feeder," Adam began.
Lawrence sucked in a breath through his teeth, taking off his reading glasses and folding them on the table. "Adam, we've been over this... Both of us said things we didn't mean then, it was a stressful situation, and—"
But Adam shook his head, silently cutting him off. "Jesus, Larry, you know I'm not still mad about that," he said quickly, and then grinned. "I was just thinking about how you're a bottom feeder now."
Lawrence stared at him blankly. "I-I still work at a hospital. I'm hardly a bottom feeder."
