Chapter Text
“Oh wait, one more thing Shin dear!”
Conan was already half way out the door when he was called but by his mum, having been chased and most definitely fearing for his life for a whole day would take a toul of any, especially someone in a 6 year old’s body. As such Conan was desperate to go home as soon as possible and not leaving his bed unless a new case came crashing down on him. Yet he still forced himself back into the hotel room, knowing just by his mother’s voice of feigned innocence that whatever word were spoken next would most definitely abolish any hopes of rest for his forceable future.
“Yes mum… what’s wrong”
“Oh my baby, Shin you know how very proud both me and your father are of you, right?”
And with that any lasting thought that this conversation would ever end up in his favour vanished in an instant, only dread remaining in his mind. While to others this would be all but reassurance, in regards to Shinichi’s parents this was but a fore warning to what was yet to come. Knowing them they had either royalty screwed up now here to beg him for a favour or just here to wish him the best of luck knowing his journey just got ten times harder.
And to Shinichi’s greatest delight he was once again correct.
“Soooo you know how popular we both are right, it just can’t be helped… aaand while your father was still helping the police solve cases we both became quite close with this one high ranking officer and his wife.”
“And so?”
“Yes, so due to the fact we both happened to have children around the same age, we decided to make a small agreement.”
Shinichi’s hairs stood on end as he desperately looked between his parents, for all he knew they could have sold of his organs to military testing, he’d long lost all faith in them, the stunt they’d pulled today most certainly didn’t help their case.
“What agreement!!” Even while his voice stayed mostly steady he could feel his exasperation and rage seeping into every word, knowing whatever came next would be anything but good.
“Don’t worry dear, it’s just a marriage agreement.”
“A MARRIAGE AGREEMENT!!”
“Yes but it’s ok since you don’t actually have to get married.”
A slow silence fell over the room, one of confusion and relief. For one Shinichi was still trying to compute this new information, but knowing that at the very least he really didn’t actually need to marry some stranger based on his parents silly whim. However once again knowing his parents he could easily conclude that this was most likely not the end, if so this would’ve been bought up and it wouldn’t be much of an agreement if it could so simply be swept under the rug.
“If it’s not compulsory then what’s the agreement?” Asking his voice filled with scepticism
And with that another guilty look swept over his mother’s face.
“Well how do I say this….”
“Although you two don’t have to get married, you are legally engaged until you two are at least 20, as we may or may not have signed a contract.”
And with that the room once again descended into silence, but this time there was no confusion or any sense of relief, just pure shock and disbelief. Thousands of thoughts filled his head but betrayed was the only way Shinichi could use to fully describe it. Betrayal of any trust he had ever harboured for them, eviscerated in a single sentence. To say that he was merely dumbfounded would be a gross understatement, sure his parents had done many quite frankly insane things, yet even so this was most definitely, many steps too far, to the point that he could no longer humour then with an intelligent response.
“A CONTRACT?! WHAT WERE YOU BOTH EVEN THINKING!!”

Being back at the Mouri detective agency, Conan felt anything but at ease. Thinking over everything he had learned today, it was easy to deduce what the biggest problem was. No matter how frustrating it was to find out about this marriage agreement, that wasn’t even the worst part, apparently his arranged fiancé was said to arrive in a few days time so that they could meet, that much had already been discussed by their parents, what they conveniently forgot to mention to his fiancée however, was that ‘Shinichi’ had not existing for the past few months.
So all in all, if Conan’s deductions were indeed correct (like they most certainly were), some random guy, who from the sounds of it knows more about him than he should, is going to show up looking for someone he most definitely won’t find and judging by the fact that he is willing to travel for over two hours to meet him, he probably won’t leave until he gets what he wants.
And to summarise it even further….he is screwed.
But although he can’t change what is bound to happen in a few days time, Conan decided that he might as well do some research to prepare himself for their inevitable meeting. Even if he isn’t required to make a good first impression or get to know him yet as he isn’t exactly the ‘Shinichi’ this guy’s looking for, it’ll probably be safer finding out what nut case his parents picked out for him.
Which is exactly how he learned about ‘Heiji Hattori’ ‘Detective Of The West’ and the so called rival of Shinichi Kudo, quite interesting how this is the fist time he’s ever even heard of him, but so be it. Of course to Shinichi the idea of being ’rivals’ was idiotic to him, the idea that instead of seeing the cruelty of each case they did, the only thing that people could see is their fantasy of their rivalry. In these cases the only thing that truly matters is revealing the truth behind each mystery, getting justice for any victim who’s life was stolen from them, not some silly nonexistent competition.
Yet even so, Shinichi had to admit, if there truly was one person who he could be compared to, based on these articles online, it would be Heiji Hattori. Though they mostly certainly had many differences, it was almost relieving to find another high school detective his age, some who just might be able to share his experience.
Nah who was he kidding, having another detective around would be nothing but trouble, just another set of eyes watching him.
What a bother.
