Ren having a terrible day, everything that could possibly go wrong in fact went wrong, overwhelmed, tired and hungry
He didn't sleep well, the school day was way too long for his likings and he forgot to grab lunch. Honestly all he wanted to do was to get home and sleep.
Though the bus ride wasn't that long with music playing in his earbuds… it was quite soothing actually…
It felt like he'd never get home today, but when he finally did he couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief, closing and locking the door, immediately going to the kitchen and grabbing something… anything… since there wasn't much food there… Dirk probably either ate it all already or they just haven't gotten shopping yet… whatever reason it was he had to settle for a sandwich right now.
Though Ren couldn't care less, at least he finally got to eat something. He tried to ignore the complete mess of the house… since that would tick him even further…
Immediately going up the stairs, Ren's whole body already feeling heavy, barely making it up the steps. Barging through the door, sandwich still in hand… he knew he probably looked absolutely miserable right now…
Finishing the last bite as he threw his bag into the corner of the room, the usual spot before collapsing down onto the bed… finally peace and quiet… he thought, leaving a slight smile on his face, thinking nothing could possibly ruin this moment…
It did tho. Dirk in the next room making far too much noise. At least that's what it felt like to him right now…
Visibly frustrated, Ren got up once again going out of his way just to lightly scold him… no biggie…
Barging through the door, seeing the mess around his room, it only agitated him further… the mess of figurines on shelves, dirty clothes thrown around the room with no care. Ren took a deep breath before saying "hey… could you like… keep it down… please…?"
Dirk looked up from his computer, weirdly enough still having the shades on inside the house… in the dead of night too. "What's got you so worked up?"
Ren just stood dumbfounded for a moment, not sure how to answer "nothing…"
"C'mon don't lie to me, you know you can always talk to me about your shitty thoughts…"
Ren went silent… not sure how to respond… no… he didn't want to respond. Did he? "Just overwhelmed that's all…" he said in the most quiet tone possible, hoping Dirk didn't hear him. But also knowing he did…
"It's okay… I know something that could cheer you up…"
The room was still silent… Dirk sighed and leaned with the chair to the side, facing them as he opened his arms… inviting a hug
Ren hesitated for a moment… but eventually he gave in, getting closer before sitting down on his lap facing him. Cautiously wrapping his arms around his neck and carefully laying his chin onto his shoulder
Dirk let a small smile slip on him face, not like anyone would see right now. He wrapped his arms around Ren's waist, gently but also firmly… careful not to be too rough and alarm him, but also firm enough for his embrace to be comforting.
It felt nice… so warm… it actually calmed him down. The room was quiet and dark… the only light coming from the computer, that was still quietly playing some show (it's my little pony.), but he didn't care about what it was playing. All Ren could focus on was the comforting hug and the comfortable silence.
His eyes getting heavy, until suddenly Dirk's hand went up into his head… soothingly running his hand through his hair…
Ren let out a content sigh, the exhausting actually getting to him… he didn't wanna fall asleep yet, especially not in this moment… he wished it could last forever.
But soon he dozed off… still in his arms
